|
|
A couple weeks back my buddy kept missing to what I believe was the same fish.
Which later when I showed up the same tip up I set the hook and pulling in a decent bass
Today I was on the ice and while watching another couple guys who missed a fish on a tip up a few times and eventually caught a nice bass out of the hole...
My theory is, most fish that tear the line out (take a lot of line) and are lost on a good hook set may well be a decent size fish.
or
Could you be missing the dinks and end up having a size fish come through and get hooked?
What do you think? _________________

Hey man, No PhD on the topic, but I think it is a combination of alot of things.
Ive seen/had dinks grab a bait by the tail, and haul off with it, only to have the bait tugged right out of their mouths, or the shiner gettin stripped when you set the hook.
Trout tend to grab a bait, haul off like a bat out of hell, then stop, drop, and resuck the bait in, So, if you set the hook "too early" when its a trout, you miss em.
Bass, Walleye, and Pickerel typically suck it in, and begin swallowin right there (need more women like that) . . . if you miss those flags, that goes into the same category as the fish that slam your dual-treble-hook crank bait, peel some drag, and still manage to avoid your rod shattering hook set.
This is why we call it Fishin and not Catchin. Also, when its your buddy's turn to set the hook, and he misses... you have ammo for the "ribbing" that will ensue. |

I did that a couple weeks ago at a pond near where I grew up in Windham....flag went off like 6 times in less than 20 minutes...ended up being a 7 inch pickeral...lol. He wasnt pullin a lot of line though...just swimming in cirlces right under the tip up. SOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying. _________________ You can play on your computer and hang out with your girlfriend if you want....Im gonna go fishin. |

7 INCHES?
They come that small??? it was probably "cute"....
Tell ya, the part that amazes me, when you get those flag ticklers, and finally do hook em. you wonder how the dink even got the hook, let alone the shiner in its mouth. Perch are famous for that. Can't tell ya how many times a flag went off, with a whopper of a shiner on it... Grab the tip, all geeked, and set the hook into a doinker. |

change single hook to treble, hook up ratio increases considerably. no waiting , no touchy feely, grab tip up in a manner that prevents the spool from turning and YANK!!! |
