Hows it going all? A group of us were thinking of going to this derby on Candlewood Lake Saturday. Can anyone give me any info on how this is run? Has anyone fished this before? I don't need fishing info, I know the area and have fished here before. Just want to know if it is worth the time.

It's a fun derby but you must preregister. Fishing has been slow around the New Fairfield Town Park area so you might have do do some serious walking to find fish.

Prizes will be awarded to the anglers who catch the largest fish in one of three categories (Trout, Perch and Bass). The tournament committee weighs a caught fish and then that fish can be released into a pre-drilled hole in the ice at the weigh-in area. After expenses are covered and the donation to the scholarship fund is made, the committee will award the three cash prizes.

The derby begins at 6 a.m. and it ends at 2 p.m. Contestants must pre-register and pay the $30 entry fee at The Valley Angler, 56 Padanaram Road, in Danbury by Friday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. On the day of the derby, contestants must stop by the store and get their hand stamped before they go to New Fairfield Town Park. Once at the park, the contestant's gear is checked and then they are free to head out on the ice to start fishing. The tournament is open to all fisherman 16 years of age and older.

Good Luck if you go, I'll be in my treestand for the last day of bow season Smile

I'll check the ice tomorrow night on my way to Squantz. I'm guessing that the derby will be postponed or canceled due to the lack of safe ice there.

Derby has been rescheduled for Feb 6th due to lousy ice. Anyone planning on fishing New Fairfield Town Park the next few days, bring long planks to get onto good ice.
