I actually took a ride around earlier today... looking at various res's, small ponds, etc...
WHAT ICE !! ??
Most of the ponds had ALOT of open water, chock full if ducks and geese.
What slush remained, had major cracks, and had that gray "slush" color.
Unless your jet sled has a 200# weight capacity, and a small paddle; aint nobody doin any ice fishing this weekend... and if you DO manage to get out there... we will probably see you on the 6:00 news... and you will be subject to the derogatory remarks of Dennis House.
Look at the bright side... this respite will get some much needed Oxygen in the water, and hopefully spark some fresh "action" once we get back out there.
If the water levels come back down, may be a good week to seek out some river broodstock salmon, trout, or hit the CT river for some cold water smallies or pike. |

Hi fishinschmoe!
Yup! All the waters up here in the NW corner are now showing open water edges, anywhere from 2 to 20 ft.
Also all the ice has changed to Milk White!
Which means that all that warm rain water pooled on the ice has penetrated into the ice and make it porous
How bad is yet to be determined
Hopefully the expected cold Wx will firm up the ice!
Best regards,

i just stopped by a spot on the quinebaug river that i usually get bass out of in the early spring and late fall, its a nice 10 to 15 ft pool with a little current that pushes through it and its thawed so im hitting it tomorrow. If i don't get anything it's still better than working!!! |
