|
|
So I collected some beer cans from my New Year festivites and a little Christmas money and I just had enough to by my 56 fuck*n dollar fishing and hunting combo. Since I turned 16 till now (3 years) of holding a licenses I've been checked 3 times. 2 times at Bantam Lake which I shouldn't even count because you can't fish there anymore without bustin your behind to find a launch, and 1 time at the Thames River. I average at least 200 days of fishing a year and I have only been checked 3 times. If I do not get checked this year I won't be buying a 2011 fishing licenses just the hunting license. I can gurantee that probaly 2 out of 5 fisherman will not be carrying a valid license and I don't blame them because its cheaper to go fishin in New York or Mass then it is in my own STATE! |

I think it's a huge mistake with the license rate hike. I hunt as much as I fish, It is a huge expense to hunt in Ct. not only for a license, the cost for tags is crazy.
Between bow hunting, shotgun rifle, and muzzle loader its more than $100.
Just seems totally retarded to double the cost of tags and than use the honor system. Without enough CO's in the state to patrol this program it will not work. I think in years coming the population of game will go down and we will have a similar situation as in Vermont...no deer, or a lot less.
Just seems like a great way to creat 100 times more poaching in the state and less revenue from from outdoorsman.
I can tell you this, I was the only completely legal muzzle loader hunter out of 10 people I knew hunted the season. Why buy the license first? you can harvest your game, get a tag online from your blackberry and then record your kill. All this can be done in the field, in your stand if you wanted. If you don't harvest anything NO money spent. If someone asks...I'm hunting coyotes. Which by the way is perfectly legal.
Not only that, they extend the Archery season thru the gun season which I think was great for bow hunters. Without checking deer and using the honor system and not enough CO's they need to check deer for more than the first week. If you hunt private land and process your own harvest why would you purchase/spend any other money? You could use your Archery tag...I guess.
The State would most likely see it as a delcine in hunters, most of us who hunt wouldnt see it that way.
Lets just open the door and make it easy to POACH in the State.
For me...I always hunt legally...always. Jeeesh it is going to cost me $212.00 to hunt and fish this year.
New York is looking better and better |

Bassgethooked I go to Tunxis and I know a few kids from Berlin who fish once in while. We always crack jokes about that 10 pounder thats swiming in there somewhere. I haven't ice fished Silver in a while but when I went with my father we always did good when you come out of the launch take a left and head down all the way to the grass bank. Silver has a lot of bass and even though they rarely get to grow over 5 pounds catchin over a dozen 1 to 2 pounders is a lot of fun. I just wish they didn't allow jet skies there |

Bluegill Terminator- Yeah I hear you about the jet skis/snowsleds. When I was out with my buddys these guys took off from the shore on their snowmobiles and were racing right past our tip up lines. The bite soured for about an hour after they came whizzing past us several times.
The spot you said is amusing b/c that's exactly where we had set up...straight out and slightly left as you leave the dock, headed towards the grass.
There is def a 10lber in there, I'm sure of it. I've heard of/seen several 7-8lbers come out of there so I'm sure big baby is waiting in the depths. But, I agree, nothing wrong with catching a dozen bass regardless of the size. _________________ Keep 'em hooked and get 'em in the boat! |

HI, Just a thought here. I now most if not all you guys are younger than i am so this may seem strange to you. sounds like it's a little late now to do anything about your licenses now but any of you having Children , Thinking about having Children or even nieses, nephews . Save your money and buy them a "Lifetime License".
I have a Free Hunting / Fishing license , 70 years old. Can't even say how much money i have spent in 54 years worth of licenses. i buy them for Christmas, birthdays etc. for my Children ,Grandchildren and when they get a little older my GreatGrandchildren will get them.
To me with making sure my family has every available means to keep a very imporntant part of our life availiable makes a gift that can't be replaced by any other. and although some people will grow up and not use them if your from a hunting / fishing family there is no reason they at sometime in their life wouldn't use them.
In Maine a "Lifetime Hunting / fishing license" from ages 0 to 5 years old is $250.
From 6 years to 10 years it is $500. after that you can not get one untill age 70.
Along with all this comes the invaluable training you can give to a young guy or gal. Gun Safety fishing and boating safety. ETC. makes for a much more meaningfull bond.
