I went to the Thompson dam today 10/29,the conditions were clear/partly cloudy, water temp 50 deg. Started out throwing a white jig and a drop shot for about a hour without any bites. My brother was with me too throwing the same thing only a black and blue jig with no hits on that either. There where pretty strong wind gusts from time to time so i decided to throw a crank bait a little.I through the crank with a slow retrieve for about 20 min without any bites. Then i took one cast with a fast retrieve and about half way in a 2.5 pound smallie smashes it. For the next hour me and my brother both threw cranks with fast retrieve and picked up 5 more smallies between the two of us.we ended with about a 8lb 5 fish total. |

Nice job basswacka. Apparently you found the retrieve speed they wanted. _________________ Eat, Sleep, Fish......I Love my SKEETER ZX225!!!

Nice job. It's alot of fun catching them on a crankbait bite. I've never had too much luck throwing a jig to smallies. |

yea it's fun! Another rig i use that works awesome for smallies especially in rivers is dropshoting a gulp minnow.I use really small dropshot hooks and 1/8oz weights and it is killer. |
