Was driving home from Bristol after work and had some rods in the car so I headed to Batterson to make a few casts from the bank. Threw a Strike King Bottom Dweller 1/2 oz spinnerbait in Bleeding Shad with a double willow. Super fast retrieve. Almost waking. Second cast, saw something moving towards it at the end of the retrieve and whipped it back out there and stuck a 2lb largie. Healthy fish. Made my day. Probably hooked up in less than 2 FOW. Moved around for about 25 more casts with the spinnerbait and a soft plastic jerkbait with no more takers. Perfect end to the day. Now I just have to wait until 9:30 for my Cardinals and soon to be Cy Young winner Chris Carpenter. |

Where you offered any crack to buy, Jed? That lake holds some nice bass but also quite a few sketchy characters on the land side. Good catching. |

No crack offers. Perhaps it was a little windy and chilly for the sketchers. |

Come on guys, I live next door to Batterson, and believe me, it's not nearly as bad as it was even 4 years ago. The place has really cleaned up and most of the bad apples have moved on. Biggest problem there now is the Gay's. They like to take their little walks into the woods. I enjoy taking my son there and we always have a good time catching fish there. No one has ever bothered me for anything there.....What sucks is, no motors allowed Yet at times, they have the water skiing comps there....I guess the almight buck is the bottom line again for some things....

It's never been bad enough that I'd say I wouldn't go back. Always something shady going on though. Every time I go there is always 3-5 cars with people just waiting for something. Who knows, maybe they are just taking a break and wanting a quiet place with a water view to hang out in their car. I've never been bothered, and as long as that's the case, then I'll keep catching bass from the shore when I can steal 10 minutes on my way home. Got a dink on a popper on Friday.
I used to go there a bunch on Kayak and when I had an aluminum boat and always had fun catching a few fish each time. Nothing over 2.5 pounds, but I never cared about size over there. I'd like to go back during the spawn next spring and see if there are any big girls (bass, that is ). |

Phish,
Trust me, the hogs are in there My favorite stretch of shore and cover there for LMB is the shore line that is just West of the sand beach, all the way back to the brook that feeds into the lake near the ramp. I've caught some really nice crappie over the years, just tossing small rapalas to the right of the ramp. Fun and close place to kill time with my son. Some other speicies that there is some big boys and gals.... Carp, Catfish, Brown Bullheads, and I'm starting to hear word about some really nice sized Eyes being taken there. Need to get there for some sunrise and dawn action on the Eyes myself, it's about that time of year.. |
