Nick, why did he not take it back? I thought Crucials had a lifetime warranty?

Didnt want the hastle of shipping it back to shimano. Im not the only person who will never shop there again- personality is what makes smaller tackle stores do well. He even got rid of his best employee/they parted ways. Its good to see him close the doors if thats the case. Maybe the high strung anxiety from running it made him mean. |

Wow, thanks for the info Nick. I didn't live close enough to really shop there but you're right, personal service is what keeps the customers coming back to the mom & pop stores. No more service = No more customers = No more business. _________________ Eat, Sleep, Fish......I Love my SKEETER ZX225!!!

He moved out of his basement shop onto the main road in guilford. Suppossedly didnt make ANY money in a few years. Then fired/canned his best/nicest/most helpfull employee and business fell way down. Then moved back to his house crying about the cost of running a store. Then he stole spots off the ct state team on winni to get 1st in the federation regional.
Now out of business? |

I've been going to TF even since Skeeter Jim told me about it 5 years ago.
Few times I dropped $500+ on rods and reels. I even did the fishing classes he offered.
Mike, is an Engineer, everything to him is Black or White cut and dry. Working for a large company and dealing with Engineers here, few of them are the same way.
Personality is not there best trait, He knows his stuff, had a real nice store. I was able to purchase equipment from him and get answers on questions while I was there, which is nice.
He did help me out a few times when I start started fishing, but his personality is kind of dry.
I miss his store, a few stores within a one hour drive for me don't carrying the depth of bass fishing equipment like he did (that I know of).
I tried using him online and I can't wait two three weeks for my orders.
If anyone knows of a store simular as TF within an hour drive from Hartford area, I'd be willing to check them out.
I hoping that CT Outfiters starts stocking more Bass fishing gear, Gary has some but not as much as TF. The nice thing about CT Outfiters is that you ask Gary or Blane for a item and if they don't have it, they will get it. _________________ Sleep...Eat...Fish!!!!! Then do it all over again. |

I have spent hundreds of dollars @ TFT when he had his shop in Guilford.. Like Ron, I also took his weekly classes a couple of years ago. His shop was top notch though some did not care for his personality (and we all have our moments) ive heard of more people ordering online. His staff was top shelf and would answer any question you had. Its too bad things didnt work out. |

I never shopped at TFT but heard nothing but good things.
This economy is really hurting people, especially the small business owners. I have been seeing a lot of small businesses go under in the last year and it is really sad. I am sure everyone on this site has been affected by this recession in one way or another as times are definitely tuff. Hopefully we will see the light at the end of the tunnel soon. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

Mike is who he is. Some like him, some don't, some aren't bothered either way. I, myself, am not bothered either way. The guy could be more congenial at times, oh well. As Stumpy stated, we all have our moments.
I must say that I think it's fully adolesent and remarkably pathetic the an individual feels he needs to use this forum to gutlessly swing his message board big balls around so that he may personally attack another. Nick, you felt like Mike was obligated to treat you better. But, he didn't. Now you won't shop there anymore. Soooo sad... It's just a freakin' tackle shop. Get over it.. |

Well said Mike Honcho, I for one was again taken back by Nick's comments. But everyone is entitled to their opinion, it's just to bad Nick feels that this is the place to express it. Maybe Nick was trying to save other anglers from a bad experience, but you can express that without turning things ugly. Personally I never purchased anything from this guy, so I can't say, but I deal with issues immediately when they happen so I don't have to dredge up crap like this.
If you don't care for the way you've been treated by someone, speak up right away, don't be a spineless punk and openly bash him on a website, do it like a man face to face. Nick you have no class! _________________ Life's Short - Fish Hard - Take a Kid Fishing |

I have to say that I've never a problem with mike or the shop. When the shop was closed I was welcomed to the house and would get help with whatever I needed. I've always had great service and great deals at times too. Agreeing with others here everyone is entitled to their thoughts and opinions but if you have a problem with someone have it out with them and them only. If your trying to help someone out from a personally experiance then give your advice but that's all.
I just ordered from him the other day before my last few tournaments and he was out of a color of a bait so he subbed it and threw in a few free baits. Then there was error with another color and rather than sending it back he's just sending me the other color when it comes in. It wasn't a big issue and he still took care of it no problem. |

Just stating an opinion. Emtoions/words come out different on the internet.
Ive been treated better at other stores (bills bait and tackle in seekonk ma- where I buy my crucials/heliums/shimano reels- top notch service with a man who stands behind his product, extremely willing to share any fishing advice and it means alot- he has one of 5 or 6 certified 10lb largemouth in mass)
Same goes for gary at ct outfitters. Hes awesome. Gets you any daiwa stuff before you can blink an eye. Has the same prices at tacklewarehouse. Stands behind his product. Local. Funny guy. Hires good staff (blaine & crew) that know alot. I had a cranking rod that the glue lost its hold on the reel seat. The thing litterally slipped to one side whenever you caught a fish. Gary took it back no questions asked.
I am an adolescent. Im sorry im passionate. Its just who I am. If you knew me at all you would know im an extremely enthusiastic person who just loves to fish. I stand by my words.
I did confront him gary. He denied ever selling me that rod, a crucial dropshot rod, a crucial swimbait rod, a calcutta 200b and hundreds of dollars of tackle.
So your saying youve never used the better business bureau? Your calling me out on a public forum as well. Everyone has there opinion and it looks like its 50/50 to me. |
