Took the wife to Crystal Lake (Ellington). She used to hang out there as a teenager and thought it would be fun to go check it out. Just a nice, leisurely trip.

Time 12PM - 3PM
Water temp: 81-83
Clarity: Crystal. Visibility at least 8 feet.

Started out in the pads straight across from the launch. Nothing at all on the frog or DS around the edges. Also threw a slug-o. Figured the fish were definitely deeper but I've been having all sorts of electronics issues with the graph working, then not working, then working, then not. It sucks flying blind when the water's warm. Side imaging is fine, gps works fine, but something's going on with the graph and it keeps showing me 2.7 feet every time it goes on the fritz. Anyway...I'll get that fixed this week. So...we headed to the docks and a few coves. I got a really healthy 2 pounder with a lot of spunk on a 7" Tru-Tungsten Tru Life hard plastic swimbait. Bluegill. 2 sinking balls. 20 lb flouro, 8 foot Zillion. Hammered it in about 5 feet after slinging it past a dock and varying the retrieve. I love this bait! As I've said in a post before, my 3 best fish have come on this bait. This little chunk was pretty zealous hitting a bait that big. Definitely the smallest fish I've caught on it, but I look at that as a good thing because now I know a 2 pounder will hit it. My wife got a keeper on a slug-o in 5 feet over some rocky bottom. That was it for the fishing, then we drove around, did some swimming and called it a day.

nice trip phish, sounds like your transducer may have come loose and moved or the wires maybe going. Just a thought. Hopefully it will be a cheap easy fix.

Nice job catching =)

Nice report! Sounds like a fun day. Not a bad lake to spend some time on both for fishing and swimming (although I'm partial since it's close to my house).

I'm sure the fishing dynamics of the lake have changed quite a bit too since they just sucked up a bunch of the milfoil, which was the dominant weed.

Both mine and Mrs. Phish's were Largemouth Bass.

Definitely give that bait a whirl, Ron. The action is amazing. Play with it in some clear water where you can watch it to get a feel. You can stop it and actually make it turn around on a pause. Not hard to do at all. Play around with the weights as well. I have settled in to using the two balls because I like it down, but I know plenty of guys that love it with no balls as a wake bait and even as a twitch bait. You can mimmick a dying fish pretty well with it as a twitch bait.
