This is more like a pickrel report than a bass report.
Hit Lakeville with DaveVa. We were on the water in a light rain and overcast skies at 8:00. Water temp was 75. Slight wind out of the west. Followed the weed line out to the island and picked up a couple of pickrel on the way. Dave caught a small bass on a fluke up in the weeds. Proceeded to fish the points off the island and the various humps on the lake.
I wound up with 11 pickrel and 1 nice bass around 2.5#. The pickrel were in about 16-18' of water on the weed edge and were caught drop shotting a blank grape zoom finesse worm and a modified green pumpkin ozmo. The bass came is about 12' on the drop shot definitely in the weeds.
DaveVa had 5 bass 4 keepers in the 1.5 - 2# range the short was the one the fluke. Bass were on caught drop shotting a purple curly tail worm in 14-16'generally (definitely in the weeds) He also brought in half a dozen pickrel.
The rain stopped around 10:00 but the skies stayed overcast until we got off the water at 3:00 when a light rain had begun to fall.
Thankfully we didn't wind up having to retie a lot with all the pickrel we caught. Most were good size and they put up a good fight with head shakes and all as well. Interestingly they felt more like what one would expect from the bass, with light hits on the baits and the head shakes and the bass were hitting the baits and running with them. By the end of the day we knew what was on the line before we saw it.
All in all a fun day with 23 fish even though we would have liked to have caught more bass. |
