Water temp 74
Water level was high, current was good up-river
A little stained
Hit the water at 5:30PM
Partly Cloudy, 74 degrees
Strike King Red Eye Shad on 14 lb Flouro
Lobina Ricos Popper on 30 pound power pro
Diawa Procyon MH 7' with the lipless
Al Cappy Loomis Bronzeback 7' custom cranking rod with the popper

No Takers on the popper for the first time since I've thrown it. Not even a sniff.

Spent time trying to cover some water fishing current breaks in 2-7 feet of water working different retrieves with the Red Eye Shad (gold). Everywhere I went looked damn fishy, but the water being high may have had them a little scattered. I'd thrown for about a half hour working the outside of the laydowns then switching to the popper to go in and over the wood. Had just said "I can't believe we haven't gotten hammered yet"to my son Cody when I hooked up with a decent 1.5 pound smallie just as the words escaped my lips. He was hanging tight to a submerged log in the middle of a current break. Caught a white bass doing the same, then a rock bass by the old bridge remnants. Off the water at 8. 3 species. Fun night. The rock bass was one of the biggest I've caught. Thought it was a smallmouth at first. He had some spunk. I gotta hand it to the folks at Strike King. Every time I throw that lure I catch fish. Throw that sucker up stream and work it down stream, jerk it around, pull it, rip it, mix it up...they flat out bite that thing. Just work it down stream.

Cody fought tackle issues all evening which is part of learning. He'll get one next time. Highland in the morning! Anybody got any Highland secrets for me????????

Jed

hi Jed!

good phishing (fishing) there.

oh yea, what do u mean i was dealing with "tackle issues" i got my line caught up a few times and a few times caught on the hooks but i was fishing most of the time.

other than that i had a great time fishing.

the smallie Phish caught was trying to be all cool in front of his fish friends by biting my thumb but it was a fail for him. Muahahahahahahahaha!

Thanks Justin. I haven't used a C-rig in forever. Wonder if I've got the stuff...

Cody has had a bunch of fun with his new lure making hobby. He made 32 in-line spinners over the weekend.
