Spice Bush is a little brook fed pond in West Hartford that only kids 16 and under can fish at. My son Cody ordered the materials for making in-line spinners online and put together his first lure. I took him over there so he could give it a shot.
Water temp probably around 74
Clear to slightly stained water.
Air temp about 70
Mosquitos: brutal
Cody Grainger made in-line spinner with a gold hammered willow and his beads were silver, yellow, yellow and silver in that order.
Daiwa 6'6" M, Suffix 6 lb flourocarbon
Cody tried throwing on the north end of the pond for a while with no luck and I suggested he move toward the creek on the south and where the fish were likely feeding on stuff being carried in. He got a nice tug about 15 feet off shore and pulled in a nice 12 inch largie. He was quite proud to have caught a fish on a lure that he designed!!!
Being a concerned parent, I of course had to make sure the water was safe for casting and accidentally may have caught two keepers on a Lobina Ricos popper on moss green PowerPro braid on an Al Cappy custom rod...but I wasn't fishing in a kids pond....no way. |
