Pictures to follow when I get back from the ER...

6AM
Heavy Fog, 73 degree air temp
69 degree water
Zero wind
Very little current
Dirty and stained water with normal Rainbow post-rain film and junk on the surface.
Daiwa Procyon 7' MH, Daiwa Zillion reel
Suffix 100% 17lb Flouro
Strike King Red Eye Shad lipless

Started off with a vixen and a popper in 8 FOW on my 7' Loomis Bronzeback with moss green Power Pro braid. A few took a look but weren't hitting so I switched to the Procyon and the KVD standby, the lipless red eye shad in bronze. 2nd cast, a 4 pound smallie destroyed it. After a nice little fight, I got her in the boat. She was hooked really well and as I was working to get her free she jumped and buried the treble hook in my thumb. Since I knew I was now totally f**cked - and attached to a pissed smallie, I did what any of us would do. Cut the lure and grabbed the camera. Took a couple painful and crappy photos and revived the fish. What a morning. SO TICKED OFF that the hook was in my right thumb. I would have stayed and fished more if it was in the left!!!!!! Great morning. Fish showed 3/15 and 4/2 on the scale. Split the difference and I'm calling it a 4-pounder.

Thought about it, but I play guitar and it was so deep and firmly stuck that I thought it was hooked in the tendon. I didn't want to take a chance. Doc agreed. He cut it out. It's going to hurt like hell in about 45 minutes. What a fish though. I'll upload photos (re-sized for your viewing pleasure) in a little bit.

Good to know I can get back to the ramp and load my boat left handed.

i am cringing just hearing your report. I got a cast master stuck in my thumb while I was loading up my truck. I put my hand right on the lure and it got stuck real deep into the meat of my palm. I tried a little trick that i saw on a bassmaster show using a loop of line and pushing on the back of the barb. I had my wife give it a good yank (the lure you sick bast*rds) but all it did was make it bleed a lot. So, I had her get me 2 shots of tequilla and my salt water pliers. I downed the shots and then ripped it out of my palm. I made a loud popping sound and bled like crazy. Luckily it was a small cast master so the barb wasn't that big. Still hurt like a b*tch though.

Yeah, I thought about the trick with the line, but being right-handed made it tough. My wife's a nurse, so we probably could have done fine working it out when I got home, but the tendon in play changed things. Sick story, Justin. Grip it and rip it!!!!

Here are the photos. I re-sized, so tell me if they're still too big.

I let the fish go as always by the way. Just put him in the livewell with a little rejuvenator to get him going.

that looks like a pretty good size hook. Mine was a lot smaller. Pete, alcohol also gives you beer muscles and dulls the pain. I wasn't going to bleed to death from a tiny pin hole lol.

All I can say 12 hours later is that it actually felt a whole lot better when the hook was in. I think it's time to start using the protective glove I bought when dealing with smallies and treble hooks. Still a great morning though!
