Water Temp 69-71
Overcast to partly cloudy
Air temp in the mid 80s and breezy
Fished in 0-9 FOW
Hit Rainbow for pleasure boating with my wife and 2 kids. After some tubing in the reservoir, we headed up the Farmington River as far as we could go. I only brought one rod, my Al Cappy custom 7' GL Loomis Bronzeback cranking rod. Abu Garcia Revo Premier spooled with 30 LB Power Pro Braid in moss green. I tied on a Lobina Ricos popper in holographic shad.
The water was moving pretty good so I just picked a few spots to drift by and pretty much fished like a fly fisherman using the current to let the popper get close to laydowns and other cover. I'd give it a few twitches and pops here and there and caught 1 LMB that was about a pound and a handful of rock bass. Later as the kids were swimming around the old bridge pilings at the beginning of the reservoir, I moved upstream about 200 yards where there's a little creekcoming in and threw the popper over rocks and weed clumps in 0-9 feet and caught a 1.5 smallie that came up and crushed it in about 9 feet. That smallie pulled HARD. It was nice to feel after only hooking up once in the CT River on Saturday.
Just another great day with the kids with the added bonus of boating a couple of fish. |
