went to wintergreen this morning with my friend for a short trip from shore and between the 2 of us we ended with 14 bass. out of them i think my friend had the biggest at the end which may have been a pound or so..... the rest were small, skinny rats; where are the "big" fish????? Shocked

with the lack of boats and other fish in there you'd think thered be alittle better fish but every year fishing there they never seem to grow; only thought is just how many people are down there with buckets emptying the place....... oh well; to each their own; anyways couple fish in a short time......

Dan I think your thinking is a little reversed as far as the cookie cutter bass and the bucket brigade. I'm sure Dusty may chime in on this one if I may be a little off but the main reason a pond will produce an abundance of same size bass is because there is not enough forage for all the bass to feed thus making them skinny or stunted. Now I am not condoning what they do and the damage they cause to fisheries but in this case the bucket brigade would help the fisherie by removing some of the "cookies" from the pond enabling others a chance to get bigger. It's when they constantly take only the big ones that the fisherie really takes a beating. Crying or Very sad

i agree jim on the sense that if a lake is managed an say a certain number or size is followed; "slot" then that works.... gives the other fish the chance to grow large and stay longer and such; its just when its day after day people are filling buckets. ive been out to there and mackenzies before and seen people filling buckets; letting the fish sit for a few hours or so and then when they go to leave just dump them back but most of the fish end up dying due to lack of oxygen or the heat and sun; if your taking them to eat then ok i can see that but if your doing it to count and be wasteful then bring a pen and paper and keep track that way ya know what i mean....... glad to see the post; thanks jim

You've seen people seriously fill buckets with fish just so they can dump them back into the water exhausted or half dead? That's infuriating. Mad

Dan, if they are doing what you said, that is just WRONG!! Taking them home for dinner is one thing but dumping dead or half dead fish back is just wasting! IMO people like that should be fined or at least have their equipment taken away.

--> I know from living in SoCal, that the Bass got big due to trout being stock quite regularly in the same lakes. The bass would simply balloon off the rainbows. Do they stock wintergreen with any type of trout fingerlings??? This may be the difference... just not enough "fatty" foods for them.

they have trout in there.... i have no clue on the stocking though because oddly enough wintergreen in a year round place by what the book says so i am not sure if the stock and you can continue to fish throughout or whats there deal

I havn't lived here too long but from what I've noticed everyone fishes for bass in the same spots on lake wintergreen. I would think if a person could get out in the deeper water they would do a little better. Unfortunately the only way to do that is by boat or float tube on that lake. Yeah i've seent he white bucket brigade there as well. The good thing is they don't venture to far from the parking lot. So fishing further in may help your chances of landing some larger fish.
