Put the small little boat into the water around 7:00 pm with a couple of friends and As quick as possible headed to the back cove to get out of the waves caused by the bigger boat traffic.

Landed a few small LM's on a Chartreuse Rapala and lost a nice trout at the boat., As it got pitch dark we headed out of the cove and started working the line across the back of the lake, I switched over to a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait (Grizz bait with a fire tiger skirt) Was using my new bait casting setup (Shimano Crucial Rod 6' 8" MH & Shimano Curado E701 reel as suggested by some on this board to me) as this is my first time ever using a bait casting setup I had my share of issues but managed to land a couple of Rock Bass, a Calico and another small LMB. I was finally getting used to using this setup when I go a nice hit, I wasn't sure of the size at first but it was bending the poll over all the way and peeling line like crazy, the fish came up for a jump and me and my friends mouth dropped in my 35 years of fishing I have never seen anything like it(not going to venture a guess at size as I don't want to exaggerate) unfortunately as I fought the fish a little longer he came to the surface again and with one last jump spit the hook not 3 feet from the boat. Me and my friend watched as he swam away. I reeled in my line and the spinner bait was completely straightened out and I was left with a sick feeling that has not gone away yet. I feel like I may never get a chance at a fish like that in my entire life and have spent the last 2 days trying to figure out if I could have prevented that last jump. Got off the lake around 11:00 p.m.

I'd really like to get to that place more often. I haven't been this year. Sounds like you had a good trip. Always nice to know there's a beast hanging around. Go get her next time!

In the new North American Fishing mag there's a pic of a guy from Newington who pulled a 29" salmon out of that place.
