Despite the incoming storms I decided to try the night bite at Beach. Jerry and I hooked up to fish and we put the boat in around 6:45. It looked like it had the makings for a great night until I pulled up to my first spot and popped in my TM...I had power but nothing left and nothing right. Sad

I just had Reynolds rebuild it before their tourney and it worked fine for the tournament but the cables came undone somewhere inside the unit, not on the foot pedal.

So now no TM and the wind was 15 mph and changing directions. Some bigger gusts but we decided to give it a whirl anyway.. We started on some rock piles in 12 - 15 fow. Not much happening so we jumped around a little and managed a few smaller fish on the DS.

We were into fishing about an hour before I got a decent smallmouth on the jig. We wer fishing with the wind on a bank that had some nice isolated rocks in ten fow. I didn't get it all the way to the boat but one good jump from that smallie was enough to keep us fishing.

I picked up a hollow belly basstrix as we were drifting pretty good and the jig was tough to fish. Two casts in with the basstrix and a 17" Walleye. Nothing more on the holly belly but Jerry picked up a few more shorts and one keeper on a DS. We then we headed back for deeper water as the winds appeared to be laying down. Appeared being the key word here.

We had several close calls w/ rocks and other structures. I had to jump on the big motor a few times to make a mad dash off of structure. At one point I didn't quite make it and hit the lower unit, nothing hurt except my ego.

It was just about dark and I was frustrated w/ no motor. I really thought we could have caught some fish if we could maneuver ..Just had that feeling. So we made one last drift and I get a two lber on a jig. Then Jerry gets one about 2.5.

I was pulling my jig over some gravel when I feel the infamous 'tick'...I had my rod tip a little high as we were close to a rock pile and I was back on my deck some just in case I had to jump on the big motor. I set the hook and my rod bent in half and pulled drag for about four seconds...then poof it was gone...There is nothing like that feeling of hanging your head... After I pouted for a few seconds I missed another two fish and then Jerry gets another two lb fish on a jig. We were in an area that was pretty accessible for a drift but it was getting really dark with the cloud cover and that was pretty much it.

W/O the TM in the pitch dark around those rocks I decided to call it a night. Considering the circumstances it wasn't all the bad. I was disappointed because I was looking forward to fishing for awhile but I guess it happens. The fact that I just had it rebuilt was eating at me I must admit.

We were off the water by 9:30.

Good fishing.

Tough luck on the trolling motor. Sad

At least you got on some fish.

If it's not fixed in time for us to go out, let me know. I'll bring my little 17' bass boat.

I took it off first thing yesterday morning and Chris at Reynolds said "bring it down" as they usually do. It will be ready today mid afternoon. One cable was frayed and started to twist. It came off inside the head and almost pinched the power line in half Shocked

First time Jig fishing and getting bit at Beach. I learned a few things Joe. It;s nice when the lake turns on and your there.I suspect it will be harder to fish there with all the kids hanging out at the boat launch and waterskiers towing skiers past dusk and sometimes within 75' of you without regard for their wake.I like the month of June on that lake. Now may be the time to search other bodies of water as I try to avoid teenage party spots as I approach 50. Nice fishing with you buddy. You know my schedule if you ever looking for a quick trip.
