should we make it mandatory for anyone who comes to the site to register to read the content versus reading as a guest without registering....

lets put it to a vote

I think that would be a good idea. But I think there needs to be some other requirement. If all they have to do is register, that's not hard to do. But maybe if they're required to contribute to a fishing related discussion once every so many days, or weeks, etc... Definitely don't go the paysite route though.

If guests can't read, neither can Google. BTW we are #1 for "ct fishing reports"

agreed with reggie and chuck. no registration needed to review the site.

as far as the comment on going paid.

This site will never go paid as long as I am here. CTFT was created for that exact reason! Very Happy

Google is the clincher for me...

so unless someone can come up with a good reason why we should make all visitors register then it will continue just the way it is... Very Happy Very Happy

I know I am new around this site but have great experience in running forums.

When I was searching around for fishing information I stumbled across two sites when googled ct fishing forums. This site and another came up. After reading through both I choose to read more on this forum because it wasn't a pay site.

What hooked me when I finally registered was a conversation I read between slimecoat and someone else about bridge jumping near an area I use to live. I bet if that post was hidden from me I would have never had signed up.

You do not have the numbers nor the content to turn this into a pay site. If you make it all private and force registration you could lose potential new members.

If you do go forward with making things a bit more private remember, to get people to registered you need something that entices them. don't make it all private but split the site up.

You keep the reports public as that's what draws the users and you make all the tips and tricks into private.

What else would a registered member receive?
A monthly newsletter....? If you make it pay a sticker, fishing lure?

How often are there events where site members meet? other than tournaments...I think I read something about a cook out?!? how often are meet and greets? this is a ct forum so getting together to fish should be easy as we are all in the same state.

If you don't have the dedication to enhance then going private/pay will turn this site into another clique....besides why would someone want to pay to post here when the other ct pay forum has more members and offers more for the money?

With a simple visual redesign of the site, traffic could increase which would then in turn increase new registrations.

the discussion was NEVER to make it a paid site Laughing Laughing Laughing just if you should have to be a registered member to read the post. I think unless we have any problems, things will stay as is. Very Happy

I belong to a lot of forums and most of them you hafve to register to read the threads. I think it is a good idea as it forces people to join so they can view and contribute to the forum.

Never going to a pay site is why most of us jumped in the first place, so I definately agree with the site admins to always keep it a non pay site. I know that was not the question in the first place.

Lurkers and registered members are getting any and all the info for free, with no strings or identity. Those who wish to be hidden, are going to stay that way if they choose to do so, registered or not. They also won't attend tournaments, or cookouts. The members who want to be known will make it so, and attend functions, add insight, and give fishing tips, etc. So why change things. If it's not broke don't fix it.

If people wish to be closet dwellers, so be it.

Bass addict, making someone register to read posts is all it does. If people don't want to post any info, and just lurk, that's all their going to do, they will never post anything if they don't want to, registered or not.
