I have never encountered this until the other day. How is this fixed? I've heard spooling up a few yards of mono and tie it to the braid. Any suggestions? Thanks _________________ Yankees Suck!

Just tie the mono backing to your braid. |

You can also put a few wraps of black electrical tape on the spool and then tie your braid to that. The braid will bite into the tape, and will not slip. _________________ Life's Short - Fish Hard - Take a Kid Fishing |

plop are you tying the mono to the braid? The braid shouldn't slip on the spool because it isn't attached to the spool, the mono is. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

I put electrical tape on the spool first, then mono backing on allmy braid reels.
I only topshot the braid about 100 yards( It's expensive ).
Instead of putting new braid on, I flip it around, tie it off somewhere, cut it, and reel it on backwards. You get 2 applications out of it.. _________________ ..I play nice with everyone.. |

Yes I tie the braid directly to the mono. Only when I am fighting larger fish do I get slippage.
It slips if I try and lock down a fish from a run ,the braid will pull extremely tight to the spool and my reel and it will spill off a few feet of line. Not via the drag.
I have not lost a fish because of it but it gets a bit annoying.
Also this only happens in my spinning reels ,my conventionals are fine. _________________ The King of Long Island Sound. |

Yup,..always use some mono backing under the braid. In addition to eliminating the slippage,..the thinner that the layer of braid is on the spool (on top of the mono...) ,..the less it will dig into itself and the better it will handle during the casts!
Braid is soft and squshy like a pillow,..so if the layer of braid is too thick,..it will squish down and deform when you pull on it hard (like when snagged or when fishting a big fish..). This can cause it to dig into itself so that the outer layers get tucked under and then will sort of "grab" on the next cast. I've also seen it where a thick layer of braid just gets so distorted that it's not even round anymore which obviously is bad for casting as well!
Bottom line is to keep the layer of braid thinner and it will cast like a dream for you!
Oh yes,..use a good brand that stays round like Powerpro, Stren & Suffix. (Some of the others flatten out like dental floss and give you "issues".) _________________ "If people concentrated more on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."
