Since we're getting towards the end of striper season on the river,..I decided to take the afternoon off and hit it one more time! Launched out of Saybrook and fished the mouth of the river for about an hour, picking up a couple of schoolies before deciding to make the trek upriver to my favorite spot.
Picked up one small striper and two bluefish pretty quickly before latching onto a "monsta"......turned out to be a real beauty at 36" but when I went to take a pic,..the camera batteries took that moment to die on me!!
I always carry some spares,..but this beast was too large to get into my livewell even with the divider removed,..plus it was pretty well spent by the time I could get her into the boat into the first place,..so with some mixed feelings I put it back into the water and moved it back and forth for a few moments before it could gather the strength to swim off!
Well, I put some fresh batteries in the camera and got it all set up figuring that I was probably jinxing myself,..but what the heck! Anyway over the next couple of hours I proceeded to just hammer them! Totals on the day were 1 broken rod,..several shredded lures and 13 stripers with 6 of them topping 30"!!
I'm sure I could've stayed longer and kept catching more,..but I was just getting physically exhausted! The pictures are kinda lousy because I was tired and trying to get the fish back in the water ASAP, since most could not swim off under their own power until I moved them around in the water for awhile! Anyway,..here you go! The last pic was my SECOND 36-incher!!
