BoSox and I took another go at Itchy River today. The water was SO CLOUDY due to the rain this morning and yesterday morning. Anyways, we suited up and tried are luck. I decided to bring my fly rod today and try something different. Man I'm so glad I did!!!
I caught three smallies on this, and almost had a largie too. He came and picked it up, and me being a fly rod novice, I didn't set the hook properly. At least I got some good casts today, and some fish! BoSox got a rock bass on a small white spinnerbait, and a sunny and a decent perch both on a black 1/8 oz. rooster tail. He was a good sport about being schooled by his fly fishing brother too.  We would have stayed longer, but a thunderstorm chased us out. We were practically sprinting through the water.

I say we're lucky we got as many fish as we did. Between the dirty water and the fresh silt we were kicking up, its a wonder those fish were even hitting at all. Thank god for the lateral line.

| I'm very surprised at the low number of responses to this topic. How many of you guys out there have caught a smallie on a fly rod??? Jealous... |

| Don't know if I could set the hook hard enough with a fly rod. For smalleys a nice baitcaster and a stout rod is the way to cross their eyes! Nice job though! |
