I spend alot of time in RI over the summers, and i go out on the Francis Fleet acouple times a month for stripers and sometimes blues for the past 5yrs. But im beginning to notice than every year is just getting worse and worse and i dont think its the captin (Pauly knows his stuff). Ive tried the day trips and night trips when the moon is right. Dont get me wrong we catch stripers but not like we use to. Any one have something to say about that? _________________ If fishing is a sport then im an athlete |

last year was epic for myself with stripers and blues. There are a lot of variables that can help or hurt your chances when going after stripers/blues. Tide, moon, time of day, bait, wind, location all play a role, if your timing is right, you should have a productive day.
My best outing last year was when I fished outgoing tide during the full moon at night. We used eals on a 3 way and crushed the stripers. I always try to fish the outgoing tide as It seems to produce the best results for me but I have caught plenty on the incomming as well. Just make sure it isn't slack tide as that is usually when things slow down.
I fish the sound about 15 times a year and I thought last year was one of the best ever. I had outings at the race where I was pulling in 4 fish at a time on umbrella rigs. I had at least 4 days where I landed over 25 keeper stripers in less than 1.5 hours. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

My complaints are opposite of yours. Quint and I dont fish for Blues anymore but they seem to be hampering our fluke and sea bass grounds the last couple years. Those scummy bastards are snapping off my 4 dollar fluke rigs and sea bass rigs like they were candy.
Also at 1 point last year Quint and I caught 43 keeper Bass in a 3 day period all released. LI sound was full of bass all year and I cant say the same for RI but I do know RI was full of Fluke last year.
I myself have never been a fan of the party boat even though I will go on occasion. You do not get what you pay for anymore. _________________ The King of Long Island Sound. |
