Hey Fellas- Not having a boat, hitting distances on the water that are spread makes things a little difficult. Since this will be my first time fishing in the New Haven area, any suggetions for good shoreline bodies of water? Maybe some lakes or ponds that offer good variations in depth and habitat for the "day-walker"? And even some spots that rent out a dingy with a trawler/5hp???

Thanks and as the water really starts warming up, good luck!

If you don't mind driving Squantz pond in New Fairfield has some great shore fishing. You could start off fishing the causeway or hike the western shore. Nice trails and some good fishing you can seriously spend all day hiking and fishing.
Just get out there before the out of state swimmers do!

Lake Saltonstall in Branford is good, has boat rentals, but you have to get a permit from the Southern CT Water Authority

Ill second the thought... Saltonstall is a great lake,, I love it there...

They will sell you a day pass and a boat rental with trolling motor for (i think) around 30 dollars..

There is potential for some really big bass in there. Not to mention walleye, trout and other species..

Have you ever fished the Housatonic river? The river has a handful of shoreline points where you can catch a variety of smallmouth and largemout bass..

I've pulled out my biggest bass ever out of there(5lb) plus a good size rainbow. They're in there.

Thanks-No I haven't, but it looks like alot of brackish. How far from the inlet should one be before hitting some freshwater fish?

the whole Housatonic river system is pretty good.. Lake lillinoah is the nicest area in my opinion. But anywhere between Lilli and Zoar is good fishing..
