Hey guys, I never fished in freshwater before. Is it any good as its in saltwater (in the sound). Should I get a license? Will I be able to catch anything good in ponds, rivers? If so what and how should I do |

first off cartman, welcome to the site...
Personally, I prefer freshwater fishing. Many will tell you otherwise, but do what you feel is more fun. If you are going to try to fish freshwater, definitely purchase a license. Its really not worth the risk of getting caught without one and the money used to purchase the license goes for a good cause.
If you fish freshwater, you can fish for a variety of things worth catching... I have seen Just4Fun pull 6lb + fish outta some CT lake/ponds. Most of us on the site fish mainly for bass whether it be smallmouth or largemouth. People also target species like pike, pickerel, trout, crappie, or catfish. You should be able to find a variety of places to fish around the Greenwich area in the DEA ponds and lakes guide.
Gl to you and have fun! _________________ Screw work....I wanna fish

PD, your killin me, the DEA ponds? The P button on the keyboard isn't even near the A button. Maybe I'm missing something not fishing the Drug Enforcement Agency Ponds, maybe I should be targeting a new species like the WEED fish, or the ICE pike. Sorry I couldn't resist....
But PD gave you great info, definately buy a fishing license, it's only $20. The DEP Lakes & Ponds of Connecticut book is the best $20 bucks you'll ever spend if you want to fish freshwater lakes and ponds in CT. You can purchase it online through the DEP bookstore. It covers fish species in each lake, depth, weed types in each, and how to get to each location. Worth every penny in my opinion. Justin Tralli and I will probably be running a couple boater / non boater tournaments this summer, so if you don't own a boat, it's a good opportunity to get out on the water and see what fishing a bass tournament is all about.
