|
|
Date / Time.................Thursday / 3:30-5:30 pm / 4-2-09
Weather......................partly cloudy mix with sunshine / mid-sixties / wind 5-10 (not sure direction)
Water temp.................dunno
Place........................Local Pond, New Britain/Farmington / on the dam
I went out to get my lines wet for the first time since ice-fishing, so I decided to go down the street to a Local pond. I really just wanted to test out my new reel and practice my baitcastin' (didn't get much of that done).
Caught a 4lb LMB around 4 pm with a very slight breeze coming towards shore. I was using MH 7 ft ugly stick with 16lb tectan mono on my spinning reel. Caught it using a deep-diving baby walleye color rapala crank bait next to some bigger stones. I thought I got caught in the rocks, it was relatively close to shore too. What a great way to start the season. I hope that's a good sign.
Sorry about the poor pics... I was in zoom mode.... |

Nice fish man! Great job! Hey just for next time, try not to lay the fish on the ground to take a pic. It really messes up the fishes slimecoat when you lay them on a dry surface. Especailly the groud. It opens them up to disease. Not yellin at ya just advising! The other site had lots of people that did that and it really isnt good....
Nice job though! |

thanks man, I have to admit I was just too pysched up to even think after that catch. My camera was still in zoom mode from the last time I used it.....and all I was thinking about was making sure to get him back in the water asap. |

I totally agree Justin, that is great advice. But it's kind of ironic to hear that coming from a tourney fisherman. I always see tourney guys catch a bass, then flip the bass on the dry decks of their boats, then puncture a culling hook through the fishes mouth, drop them in a live well for a couple of hours, then drop the fish in a container with a lid, to weigh them, while the fish are flip flopping on a dry surface while suffocating.
Nice catch by the way. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

I never flip fish into the boat. That's as bad as putting them on the ground. I use a net. The net is wet enough for the fish to be safe. Most weighin crates are also wet from use. I know Chris Novack wets the crate before the fish team weighs in. But you are right, that is just as bad as putting them on the ground. |

justin, I was just busting your stones. I wasn't serious at all. All the Tourney guys I have met have a great appreciation for the safety and logevity of bass.
It was obvious by your comment that made that you really do care about protecting the species. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

I try not to do that, but if I were to catch a huge pike by myself, I need a picture somehow you know? But i do avoid it at all costs. |

Yea, its tough to get those solo fishing photos... I lived in NB for 2 years and it never even crossed my mind to fish there. Downtown is a filthy hole... (insert puking emoticon here) |
