went out with stratos17 today to quonnipaug hoping to get some fish.. saw the weather and knew it was going to be cold but nothing is better than actual first hand experiance
water temp 37 air temp 19
we ended up saying this isnt going to work when our rod guides started collecting ice and our reels were shearing ice off the line as we reeled in. after a few birdnest and line twist/knots along with frozen fingers we said we'll come back a warmer day
oh well.... it takes alot for me not to fish and that point was reached today
launched at 645am; packed up at 8am
only reason i bothered posted this was how "amusing" it was watching the water freezing instantly on each cast; the water at the launch from pull the boats out also froze instantly and stratos17 and i almost ended up on the ground
maybe i'll make up for it at macks later, |

By far the coldest day that I have ever fished!!
It seemed like any other day, wake up early, Gas up. launch the boat and start fishing. When your reel starts to make snow cones...not so good. Wow!
It was cold around 20 degrees. If it wasnt for the equipment freezin up, I think we could have scored some fish. It can only get better from here.

Took the wife to Stew Leonards in Danbury this morning and saw a couple of bass boats on I-84 heading towards I would guess Candlewood. When your on the other side of 60 I have found that a good number is 60+ degrees. Until we reach that plateau I will have to be happy just reading reports from you guys. cmorjoe |
