|
|
I have read the fishing guide sections on lake and ponds over and over. I understand both motor restrictions...well sort of. For a fact I know if the rules say "no internal combustion motors" it's just no.
Horse power restriction does it mean that you cant launch a boat that has a motor that exceeds the restriction or that it is perfectly fine to launch as long as you dont use it or start it. Does anyone know for sure
Is this written somewhere? |

you can't use the motor if it exceeds the limit but you can certainly use your boat in that lake, you just have to use your trolling motor. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

Every lake is different. You should pick up a boaters guide. Some lakes you can not have a gas motor connected to your boat at all, and some of them you can just trim it up and use your trolling motor. |

Chuck,
Is that info printed in the boaters guide? I have never seen it. I will check again.
Thanks,

Stratos17,
Some of the rules are printed clearly but most are not. Most lakes you can have your outboard trimmed down to use as a keel, so the wind doesn't blow you around in circles. But other lakes, like Lake Hayward for example, it is not written anywhere I have seen, but the lake association does not want to see the keel of your outboard even touching the water. That lake is an electric trolling motors only deal.
There may be other lakes like Hayward, I'm just not that familiar with them. _________________ Life's Short - Fish Hard - Take a Kid Fishing |

Thanks for the link. Page 65 explains it perfectly
Lakes, Ponds and Inland Streams
"Note: On inland bodies of water on which the horsepower or size of engine is restricted, the propellar must be removed from a non-complying engine and the outboard motor or lower unit must be tipped up to demonstrate that the propellar has been removed"
Does anyone do this? |

Most of the times I put a cover over my prop and trim the motor up just enough so you can see the prop is covered |

this question came up on another site, heres skips reponse
If you can easily remove your prop, that is the best indicator that you are not going to use the larger motor. If it is a major hassle to remove the prop, keep the motor raised to the full limit and wrap the prop in a colored plastic bag and tape it on good. An orange or red bag is your best bet if you can find one. Or, I have heard from a couple of people that they found some type of plastic prop guard that goes around the prop. The intent is to show that you are not going to use or can not use the larger motor.
