This is why you dont snap off a weight straight at you. They said it was a one-in-a-billion chance but it almost happened to me once as a kid. I took a glancing blow to the head from a BULLET weight flying past me when I tried to snap off my lure. Im guessing this same kind of thing happened to him... obviously with a much worse result

I fished with Bernie Schultz on the Potomac a few years back... He was insistent that I wear sunglasses, even though it was raining like the wrath of God (another competitors boat actually was struck by lightning it was so bad)... He was almost father-son talking to me..."all that has to happen is for you to set the hook, and have it not set, and the weight you are using could go right into your eye..."
Now I see his point..... |

Ouch! That had to have hurt, for a few seconds anyway. That's bad luck for sure! I don't know if sunglasses would have helped that guy? _________________ Life's Short - Fish Hard - Take a Kid Fishing |

that's out of control. I had an incident from trying to tug a large spinner free, the spinner shot out of the water into my forearm I tried pulling it out as a reaction only to hear some muscle tear. Story shortened, the hospital cut the hook and popped it through the other side. Yes, the reaction was to get the damn thing out stupid to have tried.. the crunching sound.. yep.. the barb from the hook. Lesson learned. |

I caught 2 people in my life. One is a forum member thestinkycrappie and the other was my brother. I hooked the stinkycrappie through the septum with a shallow running rapala - he had to go to the emergency room.
I hook my brother with an atom popper while blue fishing. He went to gaft the fish, instead he hit the lure and sling shotted into his cheek. He also had to go to the emergency room.
Anybody want to take me fishing. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

Well accidents happen...... we've all been on the recieving end of a buddy's cast or hook set........its not fun for sure................ I have a rule in my boat that if yo have to go down to change a bait or something that you have to verbally announce that "you're in the hole".... this way you tell the guy in front you're down there and he wont sneak up on you from behind int he middle of a cast....
But eventually we're all gonna get hooked...... _________________

Did that to myself couple of years ago. Got a Heddon Torpedo stuck in some brush and yanked the shit out of to get it loose and lodged it into the side of my knee. Was having such a great day with the lure and being it was the only one of that color I had I didn't want to snip it so I took an xacto knife and performed my own surgery on my leg cutting it just enough to get the hook out. Took some superglue I had in my tackle box and glued the skin back together. Ended up catching 110 bass that day (my best all-time) and ended up losing that lure because the 111th fish broke my line. Went back there the following weekend to see if I could match that day and what do I see floating in the water along the shoreline, the same exact lure I had lost the weekend before. Apparently the fish was finally able to throw it loose. I "retired" that lure and now sits proudly in my office. The morale of this story......If the lure is HOT then suck it up and sacrafice some body parts! _________________ Eat, Sleep, Fish......I Love my SKEETER ZX225!!!
