wamma,

I would try going into Salmon River and try some of the coves like Seldon Cove. Being out of the main river current will make fishing a little easier as it is not as critical tidal water wise. Good luck.

Depnds on which cove. Chapmans gets pretty low during the tide but if you go north it doesn't effect it as much.

wamma, you will have no problem getting in and out of Salmon River Cove and Seldon Cove. Although the water level does fluctuate with the incoming and outgoing tides, it is not enough at those locations to prevent access. Just becareful with the other small coves and inlets as they do go down enough to keep you from getting out if you go in during high tide. As for Salmon River the entrance is plenty deep but once you get in the back cove area there is a defined channel there so just follow the channel as marked. There is usually a bunch of sticks sticking out of the water that marks the deeper water ( an "S" shaped channel kind of) that boaters have put there in the past. If your'e not sure just go into the back using your trolling motor and watch your depth. The bottom there is mostly muddy with very few rocks so just keep your motor raised so you don't drag your skeg and keep your eyes open. Just wondering if you are from CT. Hard to believe that you've only been on the river once in 7 years. Another tip is to target any wood and grass lines you can find on the river as they are usually productive depending on when you hit them. I've had some luck fishing the docks in the marinas also and believe me there are plenty of them. Good luck and let me know how you do.

SkeeterJim and everyone else Thanks again. I am from Long Island and to fish the river its about a three hour ride to Haddam Launch thats why I havent been there.Wish I could put more time in but with gas prices these days its hard and plus Candy is only about two hours.Gonna be a tough one but its always a learning experience no matter where you go. Thanks Mike

It must be one hell of a club tournament to want to drive 3 hours to fish it Mike. I kind of guessed you were not from CT. I hear you about the ridiculous gas prices, one reason why my motivation to drive long distance to lakes has been cut down. Due to your response I take it you'll be launching out of Haddam Meadows. Salmon River is not too far south from there. Anyhow, good luck with the tourney.

Wamma,

Been here for 22 years now and loving it. I do go back a few times each year to visit the REAL beaches and get some GOOD Pizza and bagels.

Just came back last week.

If you need any other CT fishing info, feel free to ask.

Ron
