Fished Batterson Park Pond in New Britian this afternoon 530-730pm. Tried throwing a jig for a while but couldn't get any takers so I switched to a zoom fluke and ended up catch 3 fish in the 14" range. Most of the beds were empty or had small males on them. The wind was howling and the water temp was 67. Not as good as my usual trip there but dodged the skunk.

Chuck,
Knowing that place, I'm guessing that you fished the entire right side from the dam to the boat launch. Haven't fished there in years. How well do you normally do there when you said your last time out was not up to par.

I usually catch a few fish over 2lbs and atleast 10 or so 10-14 " fish. On some over the better days I can load up on 3-5lbers but not every trip. My avatar is from Batterson last May. |

Nice Chuck! Those bass in your avatar have some nice size to them. They must be feeding on them walleye fingerlings. I'll have to try that pond again. I'm just a little leery about the riff-raffs that hang out at the launch area that have no intentions on fishing but smoking and boozing it up. |

That's good to hear. Maybe I will run into you there sometime as I live in the next town over (Newington). I love fishing ponds that are not heavily pressured. Have you ever tried the pond next to the baseball field at A.W. Stanley Quarter Park? I have seen some pictures of NICE bass that have come out of there. I was there one time when I had a nice topwater strike on my Heddon Torpedo when the damn fish snapped my 10 lb. line! I would have loved to seen that one. Just not sure if you could put a car-topper in there and not be harrassed by the police. |
