started the day off at 2:45am to head out to wintergreen with a friend. got there alittle later then planned due to stopping for some nightcrawlers.
the plan was to fish for bass as we normally do, but try for some of these channel cats that d.e.p. stocked last year.
my friend was using the worms while i went with some cutbait from last year. maybe an hour into fishing my friend had about 4 or 5 cookie cutter bass and i had 3. missed a 4th when i noticed my bait pole was bent over and the drag was going abit. took a minute to reel in but i caught my first channel. ended up changing locations after abit and tried for more cats. this time it took about 15-20minutes and i had my second. 2lb each, 20inch. my day of bass ended there while my friend managed 9 before leaving at 8am.
ended up going with my girlfriend to a family party at a their cottage on a private lake off of durham. i knew from last week where some beds were and how close to shore they were. instantly found two bass in the shallows and at first they weren't taking a thing. finally after switching through baits i managed one of the pair. a nice size 4lb. threw it back and fished a different spot for abit and picked up a little guy just over a pound or so. went back to where the pair was and tried for the second. after a few hours of on off trying i manged a second but to my suprise it was the same bass i caught earlier. oh well: one can't complain.

wintegreen is in hamden near west rock state park.
there are catfish in most of the larger lakes around here now. silver, qunniopaug, are two examples. |
