Yum 9" Houdini Kistler flipping stick/20# fluoro,.......twitch, twitch, pause! No subtleness in the strike either,..sometimes they just peck or slap at the bait,..but when they take it, the flipping stick just all of a sudden doubles over!!
River stripers:
This time of year, the stripers enter the river to feed on spawning alewifes. The silouette of the Houdini's is almost a perfect match so it has become the bait of choice! The stripers try to push the alewifes up onto the shallow flats of the river where they can easily run them down,...so the game plan is just to drift the flats, casting as you go! That one was caught in about 3 feet of water!
I was there, fishing the same bait on Sunday when one of them got away by snapping the hefty 9/0 hook that comes with the baits!
BTW,..I'm fishing near the mouth of the river just because it's close to where I live,..but this same pattern holds across the state. _________________ "If people concentrated more on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."

thanks for the info mark.
I was out last saturday by rocky hill and they were practically jumping in the boat. I didn't have any of my striper gear because I left it in my fathers truck and couldn't grab them before the trip. Anyways, I threw every think I had from LMB tackle box
and they wouldn't even look at it. I hit them in the head a couple of times and the totally ignored it.
Even thought I got skunked it was still exciting. Nothing beats site fishing. It is so hard to tie knots when the fish are jumping all around you. At one point I actually tied my finger to the lure out of haste.
I stopped by CT outfitters on my way home today and bought 4 packs of the Houdini's (2 packs pearl white and 2 pack blue). I am gonna try to hit them Sunday AM. I will let you all know how I do. Thanks again for the info. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.
