Hit Quonnipaug from 1:30 to 4:30 with my buddy Jamie (punchin fish).
Water temp: 62 degrees
Little wind
few weeds
Cought 2 LMB (a 1.5 and a 2.5 lb) on a black spinner bait really tight to cover in shallow water. Must be the fronts moving through . Jamie wrestled with a slime dart, after cursing the rogue, but let it off beside the boat. Tried a jig, cranks, and a buzz with no takers. Saw one male on a bed in the southern cove. Threw him a Senko, but he had booty on the brain.....
Things are heating up.....

That is wierd that you say that...I saw 2 red trackers....Talked to one of the guys on the lake solo and it wasn't you(boat had a 50hp on it).....Also saw one boat that had just launched when I was getting ready to put in...Asked me about my 1985 boat....Was that you?
Amazing that we could miss each other on a 100 acre lake.......What were you throwing to get those Hawgs?

I must have just put in before you I would have recognized you easily!
I saw the other red tracker as i drove up the road. Then ran into him halfway down the lake. I said, "hey, nice boat" as he said, "i was just gonna tell you the same" LOL
Odd, i was "trying" to get my rods all untangled from my POS rod locker and Buckcall (member) and Jighead(other site member) pulled in and lauched before i could get my rods together It took me a while
There were a ton of boats out there, in and out.
The first 4 i hit in the head with a spinnerbait. I knew there was a bed right side of this dock and fisrt cast nailed it right in the head. Weighed in 4 even. Got another small one with a gash running top to bottom on a super fluke. Pulled other 4(and probably some change) off another bed teasing it for many minutes with a jig. Didnt weigh, but it was slightly larger than the 4.
Another couple pounder on the spinner bait back in the cove where the swan is nesting. Threw it right towards that little back openning where the other mean swan was just hanging and this fish grabbed it
Some lady came to the shore yelling at me Youre a little close to the nesting birds.......
I said, whatever lady. If they think so, they will let me know
We spent an hour or so down in the very end long weedy area trying to get something out of it NOTHING
Friday the pickeral were smashing spinnerbaits running over, thru and around lillies erraticly! _________________ Thar aint NO fish in here !!!!!!!! |

Gotts love that lake....It seems to change hourly...I found the fish were not moving at all.....Water seems a bit cool for full blown spawn so I figured they would be moving a bit more....I got one off the wood on the shore moving into the shallow, narrow back cove...Had to be in 8" of water....The other came off the pads near the big floating dock near the boat house...He was sitting right on the edge near the open water....
good times.....Nice pics BTW |

No duh, on that,.....best day of fishing I ever had in CT was about a 25# bag in about 2 hours there with absolutely nothing in the 2 hours before,..or 2 hours after that stretch! And all that was throwing the same lures in the same places! Reminds me of that old bass fishing addage,......."go figure!"
ps: Nice catching guys! _________________ "If people concentrated more on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."

Honestly ,please stay away rfom the nesting birds.
I hate people like that, they have to just come over and mess with the nesting birds that don`t bother you.
Do what i use to do as a kid ,make believe i was deaf and made her scream for an hour or until she just got fed up and went back in the house.
Some people have nothing better to do then to just break fishermen and hunters gonads.
That may be 1 of the reasons I stopped freshwater fishing. _________________ The King of Long Island Sound. |

I wasnt that close that i was in danger!! If i was to close the big one chasing away the geese would let me know!
I was there friday with another site member and we were in that cove, all the way to the other side of it and this swan finished chasing a goose, and i was retying something. my partner mentioned something and i looked. This swan was 5 or 6 feet from my face just looking at us. I chatted with it a little and after a few minutes he just swam away.
They are used to people. The geese are the threat and they know it, otherwise they would swim near that cove nad not get chased _________________ Thar aint NO fish in here !!!!!!!! |
