Ok you old salts. I need your input.
I grow up on Long Island and surfcasted with my old man for many years.
I moved to CT and haven't surfcasted in 20 years.
This weekend me and a group of guys from the fire house are going surfcasting..
I cleaned up my very old 12' surf rod and cleaned my penn 700 and now I need some line.
Years ago my Dad and I use 20lb Mono because thats all there was, Now there is so many choices.
What do you suggest for surfcasting line?
Thanks. _________________ Sleep...Eat...Fish!!!!! Then do it all over again. |

If you are going surf casting locally (in ct) leave the 12 footer home and break out a med action 7' spining outfit w/10 to 15# mono or braid on it. The fish are running on the smaller side right now 1-10lbs. If you are going back to the island where the fish may be on the larger side 50# power pro is the way to go. It casts a mile and has the same diameter of 20# mono. _________________ Ladies and gentleman take my advice.... pull down your pants and slide on the ice. |

Quint seemed to forget that even with all the smaller fish around there is the occasional bruiser ready to strike.
If you have a med or Med/Heavy 7 foot spinning or Baitcaster that will be sufficient,10-15lb Braid.
Bucktails, grubs or sandworms your best bet for now. _________________ The King of Long Island Sound. |
