So I was at a pond this afternoon
Clear water but lots and lots of weeds... could see a ton of activity out in the sunlight (ie sunnies, bass, turtles and frogs at 3 in the afternoon)
So I guessing the bass were guarding their spawning beds because they would chase anything in my tackle box or night crawlers but boy would they chase out the sunnies....
It was like there was a radius and if anyone came too close they threatened to eat them...
So my question is....is there anything that would piss off those bass enough for them to bite? I tried swimbaits, plastics, jerkbait minnow, tubes, even a rattler for good measure and hardly even a look.
Any ideas...time of day have anything to do with it?
Nonetheless it was pretty sweet to watch how fast those buggers are!! _________________ 6.5' Penn Long Beach with a Penn 330Gti for deep sea

buzzbaits work well for spawing females, spinner baits - wake them, wake baits, top water mouse and maybe a chatterbait.
or you could tie on a bunker snagger and hook them in the back, _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

way too early for the spawn....water usually has to be steady in the low to mid 60's before they even thnk about it and then there is the whole full moon/moon cycle thing. _________________ I love rippin on the river!

That may be true...at the moment I am in Pennsylvania at college... but I don't think the waters THAT warm yet here either _________________ 6.5' Penn Long Beach with a Penn 330Gti for deep sea

"water usually has to be steady in the low to mid 60's"
if it is a shallow pond and the temps are in the 50s at night and in the 70 during the day - shallow water can heat up pretty quickly. Especially if it is a lake with a dark bottom. They could be just staking out beds or trying to find mates.
"So I guessing the bass were guarding their spawning beds because they would chase anything in my tackle box or night crawlers but boy would they chase out the sunnies..."
did you mean to say wouldn't chase anything in your tackle box? If the water is clear and you can see them they can probably can see you so the are leery. If the pond has a lot of pressure the bass can be fickle. Try fishing from the opposite side of the pond. When approaching your spot be stealth like as the bass can detect vibrations from the shore
fish slow, the slower the better. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

yea, I meant "wouldn't" ....
I got one to check out a worm but that's it.....
And I was there 2 days ago and it seemed like they were all in pairs... hence possible the mates idea....
I ought to learn the biology a little better of these things _________________ 6.5' Penn Long Beach with a Penn 330Gti for deep sea
