Got out on Silver thsi morning with babycubcatcher (Sam),.....
Although we were ready for the foul weather,..the weathermen nailed it once again ( ) and it turned out to be a bright sunny day!
Anyway, it was pretty much of a typical day on Silver with a basketfull of small bass and pickeral! It was the first time this season where it felt like "fishing" for me versus "braving the weather so I could wet a line,..." so i can't complain. Nice fishing with you Sam,..we'll do it agin sometime soon! _________________ "If people concentrated more on the really important things in life there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."

I was on pickerel lake @ 6am and I have never been in a worse rain storm on a boat. The skies opened up for about 20 minutes with pancake size rain drops.. My buddy and I where laughing hysterically because as soon as we got on the water a 100 year storm opened up. Once is past, the day turned out to be one of the nicest, calmest days I ever had on the water. Absolutely one of my best days ever as far as conditions.
I love silver this time of year. You always get action no matter what the conditions are. It nice not to have to pull weeds off of the trolling motor every minute when fishing there in the spring. The summer gets pretty wed up hard. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

Nice job Mark and Sam. The reason you got all runts is because the big'uns are waiting for me! _________________ Eat, Sleep, Fish......I Love my SKEETER ZX225!!!

That lake sucks! I got a 5 4 there last year in like 10 trips and never broke 2 pounds besides that. |

Hey everyone.
This is Sam.
FYI later that day i went out with my buddie and he caught a 8.8 LMB (digital scale yet an old school camera) in northern CT!
I will post more info and some pics this coming weekend as they are getting developed. |

That lake has gone down hill but it is still a decent place to wet a line and a catch a bunch of dinks. There are huge fish in there. I prefer fishing there this time of year before it gets so weedy you trolling motor barely works.
I have caught 5lbs out of there and have seen friends catch 6lbs there as well. it is now my goto lake over the wethersfeild res -I always catch something at silver where as the res i have been getting skunked way to much lately. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

Our club has a tourney there on Sunday this coming weekend. I am not fishing it though, I'll be in Newport for the weekend, I'm the best man at pointing dogs wedding. I'll post the results on Monday am, if somebody doesn't beat me to it.
Our club fished our season opener last year at Silver, and the winning weight, I believe, was somewhere around 7lbs., 2nd place was about 5lbs, all cookie cutter 1.5 lbers. Good Luck guys. _________________ Life's Short - Fish Hard - Take a Kid Fishing |

I think its just the idea that local spots suck.
Say I wanna hit wethersfield res because in my opinion silver blows. Yet you may go thre and catch 3 5lbers in a day and I could do the same at wethersfield res. Its just the idea that you need to travel to do well. Everyone has at least ONE great lake/pond/puddle near them.
I seena guy catch a solid 6pounder on a chugbug there last summer. |

Guys, I totally agree with Bass Addict. I consider Silver to be my home lake as I live right in Newington and like he said it is a great place to catch numbers but there are still some big ones in there. I've caught a 5.5 & a 7.2 from there in the last 2 seasons. But that place once it gets weeded over to the max is a nightmare to fish and most anglers don't want to deal with that. Sometimes I think because of the weed problem that the fish are either stunted from too many cookie cutter bass or they are litterally starving because the forage has such great hiding places in the weeds. All in all, never count that place out as I have had strikes there that snapped my 10lb. line and I never knew what it was. I don't think they were snapping turtles either. Just like any other place you just gotta put your time in and get to know the lake.
