I've been out fishing in my kayak a few times. I recently added a rod holder and picked up a "portable" fish finder setup for it and have been pleased.

The portable fish finder setup has a base that accepts 8 AA batteries and has a suction cup for the transducer. I've been pleased thus far.

In my short, 1 1/2 hour trip, to Middle Bolton today, I finally hooked up to two bass, both small, but bass nonetheless. Both were caught on a 1/4 oz jig. This was my first trip to any of the Bolton lakes, but it was nice because it's close. I've heard there are a lot of small bass there, but I'll make a trip again soon enough to check it out more.

The kayak is a bit of a challenge in even the slightest wind as it just takes off. Makes it hard to fish slow! An anchor is my next purchase.

I used to fish Bolton Lake alot in the mid 90's. Then the pressure came. Haven't been back since. Hopefully it is on the rebound.

I fish it once in a while, the biggest fish I've caught from there is a 3lb. largemouth. But you are correct good #'s of 1 - 1.5 lb bass, when the water warms up some, try throwing a topwater popper the can't stay off it there. Also throw senko's, drop shot, spinnerbaits, and of course a jig always produce well at Middle bolton. Good Luck
