I have a Shimano Curado and I need some advice on how to set up the pins for the brake...Im ok with the real and I have been tryin to figure it out for a year or two now with not much luck...didnt know if anyone knew an easy way to figure it out or any special tricks cause I know a lot of people use them and they are a quality real.....Thanks everyone Thumbs Up

what are you throwing on it it all depends on weight just make sure you keep opposite pegs the same

I have have made it my 1/2 to 3/4 oz jig setup....when you say opposite pegs the same you mean like if a weight is all the way out on a pin then the pin directly across from it should be all the way out also? Thankyou again

yes that is exactly what i mean its all magnetic the more metal that is shown the more magnetic drag that there is i believe the heavier bait the less drag you need so i would think you should put all of the covers all the way out if that doesn't work good try moving one set in at time intil it feels right but like i said before keep the oppostite pegs the same so always move them 2 at a time hope this helps

They are actually not magnetic,..they simply press outward with centrifical force as the spool spins (All Shimano's use the centrifical versus the magnetic braking..). Generally, you will get the smoothest/best performance when they are set equally around the circle just like balancing a tire. That means if you set two of them on,..they should be opposite to each other.

If you want to do 3,..then do every other one.

If you want to do 4,..then the two that are "off" should be opposite each other.

....You should set the least number of them on,..but still enough to keep you from backlashing! I would guess that you would need either 4,.. or all 6 of them on, if you are just learning to cast with it. Note that you should also set some tension on the cast control knob (that is the knob in the center on the opposite side from the brakes..) to keep from backlashing! I hope that does it for you!

i just picked up a curado myself, and in the paperwork it came with it shows a diagram. in this it states that if the backlash occurs in the begining of the cast its best controled with the variable brake system. if its toward the end use the friction control (the drag)

whenever i change a bait ill tighten the drag till the line doesnt move then point the rod straight up and loosen the drag till the bait begins to move on its own.

What you are doing is correct,..except that what you are calling the "drag" is actually the "cast-control knob" (ie. the round knob with the textured surface..). If it's called the "drag" in your paperwork,..it's probably just a bad translation from Japanese!

The real drag adjustment is that star-shaped thingy under the crank! Wink
