I'm pretty sure you can't buy or have largemouth bass for a pet. Call the d.e.e.p. to be sure. |

Hi,
No pet Bass -> But in my neighbors little fire pond next door there's a monster Bull Frog (MONSTER) with a super loud deep bass voice that is so deep that he keeps everyone awake at night -> We named him "GUS" !
Has a tenor brother ..we named "GORDO" !
Swear they compete for air time

I'm not sure but I'm guessing if you catch one of legal keeper size you could keep it. A 12" fish is a big fish that will eventually get huge or be stunted. You will need a very big tank to comfortably fit a largemouth in. You should also never return a home kept fish back into native waters.
I have never heard of a pet store that carries largemouth. |

Having pet largemouths is more common down south and out west. I've never heard of having pet largemouths up here in the North East. Never heard of pet stores selling pet largemouths. |

ive raised bass before but they where fingerlings I had trapped in a minnow trap while collecting bait ...
Technically speaking its a no no but with that being said if you decide to do it things you sould know
they need a large tank 55 gal or biger they grow very rapidly and eat ALOT !! by the time I released them where 13in and 1.5 lb eating 6-12 1.5 in minnows a day they also will trash the tank when feeding splashing water out all over there a lot of work very costly fish to raise (DO NOT) use goldfish from pet store to feed them there loaded with disease an parisites that bass have no resistance to I found this out the hard way almost lost them both,
The 2nd tank I did with native fish had calico bass bluegils and yellow perch
much easyer fish to raise they will all eat flake food to start and take to pellets rapidly the bass wount frozen brine shrimp also work very well when there small and all of them are easly caught with a hand net wadeing in the shallows...hope this helps ya _________________ I Love to fish......Not a big fan of sitting in the boat alone ....the Conversation and the company make it perfect |

With only certain exceptions (e.g., a permit) the liberation of fish into the waters of Connecticut is illegal!:

You still need a permit for that. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Talk to the guy who manages the tanks at Cabelas, Jason McWade. He's got a few monsters! _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

55 gallons is way too small for a mature largemouth. |

The dep has a page with fish farms where they raise trout and other fish for stocking. Im sure you could get one from them. BTW youll need a 100gallon tank minimum for a bass. Sunfish or perch could thrive in a smaller tank like a 29 but thats if you have like 2-3 max. _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

The tanks at Cabela's are an exception to the norm. If you have enough money to make a tank like that you can afford the equipment for automatic water changes and enormous filters to keep the water quality in check. Without the water changes and filtering the tank would be way too overstocked. Even a natural pond of that size would not sustain a fish population of that density. |

Most home tanks are dimensioned for viewing fish not so much for keeping large fish. A typical 150 gallon tank is only 18" deep. If you have a 21" largemouth in an 18" deep tank it is not ideal for the fish. If you could find a 150 gallon tank that is closer to 24" to 30" deep it would be much better suited for a largemouth. I would suggest sticking with the sunnies. |
