ya my 55 was getting to tight for them rapidly thats why they when back to the same pond I got them from my buddys bait pond where he drops all his left over minnows from fishing we use to trap tons of minnows out of there but i stopped the whole live bait thing like 15 years ago ...but he still traps 100s of minows a year out of there for himself ....the sunnies and perch and calico did much better in the long run and where far more atractive fish than the bass where _________________ I Love to fish......Not a big fan of sitting in the boat alone ....the Conversation and the company make it perfect |

I agree that a panfish setup would be your best bet. Crappie, yellow perch, rock bass, bluegills, pumpkinseeds, and redbreasts.
I've read and seen online that it's best to start them off with the basics, such as worms and insects. As they get older and bigger, feed them small minnows and crayfish. |

How many pumpkinseeds do you suppose you could keep in a 55? I heard they're pretty aggressive and output a lot of waste, so maybe...two? Three? Or is that even pushing it? |

A 55 would suit 3 pumpkinseeds but you have to be good with your water changes and have a good filter. and DO NOT feed the fish worms. They live in the dirt and are really dirty. When you hook a worm it basically poops everywhere. Now think about that in your tank... not a good idea. Plus if you have large rocks/ or gravel the worms can squeeze through them and get out of reach from the fish. Id just stick to feeding them small minnows or bugs. i would get a 55 gallon tank minimum. And i would put in two hang on top 20gallon filters with a 20 gallon sponge filter. Youre probably thinking the water changes will be easy but trust me after a few weeks youll get tired of doing it and become lazy so make sure youre positive to do this. And for substrate, id use gravel its much easier to clean than sand. I have sand and it looks very nice but its a pain to clean. Good luck on this! Youll have to post some pictures once you get it up and running. _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

Oh and you should get a small catfish or bottom feeder. Plecostomus keep the tank algae free and theyre big enough so they wont get eaten by the other fish. But make sure you have some fish food for them besides algae to keep them strong and healthy. _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

2 or 3 pumpkinseeds mixed with 2 other panfish might be good. Pumpkinseeds are more aggressive than bluegills and have the biggest diet as for variety compared to the bluegill and redbreast. |

If you get them when theyre small they wont grow as big. So you could fit more if you get them at like 3 inches big. _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

I'd rather have a tank with a few healthy, happy fish than a tank with a lot of stressed, stunted fish. I think if I do this I'll stick with two pumpkinseeds and two redbreasts or something. My 55 is currently occupied, but when I eventually restock, I'm doing sunnies for sure. I recently sold the most perfect filter for this project too, dang it. |

NW there is aways shrimp!! But youll need the bigger ones like bamboo shrimp. Or give them hiding spots. Shrimp will clean your tank too! _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

ya I thought of the shrimp ....never tryed them because sunnies are fairly agressive eaters and would team up and tear them apart but worth the shot _________________ I Love to fish......Not a big fan of sitting in the boat alone ....the Conversation and the company make it perfect |
