I'm looking for a decent pair of polarized glasses. Nothing fancy that will cook me dinner or answer calls. I've been checking out the Costa Del Mar Rincon glasses. I've also looked at some of the Oakleys as well. Anyone have a certain preference? I'm looking to spend 150 at the most. Thanks _________________ Yankees are like snitches...a dying breed |

Smith optics is what you want, I currently own a few pairs of them with my favorite being "the don". The retail price on them are about $150 and they are available with polarized lenses and photochromic polarized lenses similar to that of "transitions". It takes about 10 seconds from going from a dark to light area for them to adjust but I find myself taking my sunglasses off far less often. They also have variety of styles from classics to wild. Bolle has some nice stuff as well but unfortunately I didn't have my pair for long till they wound up at the bottom of a lake.

I've looked at WileyX,but don't care much for the styles. I wish they would put more display pics of people wearing them you can see what they're going to look like _________________ Yankees are like snitches...a dying breed |

I wear prescription Ray Bans, again not too many styles to choose from at Lens Crafters, but they cut the glare and allow me to see everything in the water very well. _________________ Life's Short - Fish Hard - Take a Kid Fishing |

I've been looking at Costas on Ebay and some of them are cheaper than other places. I kind of dig the SMith Optics _________________ Yankees are like snitches...a dying breed |

While polarized is cool all by itself, light sensing tint levels with polarization is awesome. You need to be carefull with the lenses though, I have scratched mine some by not storing them in a pouch and need to send them back to smith for to be buffed and recoated or replaced (about $25-$50). They have a lifetime warranty on everything except abuse, IE letting them roll around your glove box.. They can also make you prescription lenses in certain styles. |

I bought a descent looking pair of plarized glasses from CVS for $20. I figure I can buy about 9 more pairs for the same price as one pair of the expensive ones. They work fine and work for what I need them for. If they fall in the lake or get scratched or lost I just buy another pair with no heartburn about the price. |

Maui Jims!!! Don't want to turn this into a Chevy/Ford pissing war but consider this.... You only have one pair of eyes that you need for the rest of your life and the damage the sun causes to them are well documented especially out on the water. Knowing that wouldn't you not want to get the best protection they deserve? Whatever you choose get somthing that is very reputable among the fishing community and don't let the cost become a factor on how you choose......think of the purchase as an investment. You'll thank youself years down the road.

I had my $160 pair of Maui Jims for one day before I dropped them and scratched the lenses. Rather than spend $60+ on replacement lenses, I'll go with the "disposable" Berkleys.
Now, do you have any suggestions for preventing the dreaded fisherman's reverse raccoon-eye sunglasses tan? _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |
