Hit the reservoir with my fishing buddy in the canoe last night from 530 or so till around 9. Bite started off a little slow, but I ended up having the most points...
For those of you who don't know, here's our point scheme: Any LMB = 1 point,
any crappie or calico = 1/5 of a point, and any stupid little sunfish that you happen to snag by accident = 1/10 of a point.
When we got there, the water was calm as can be, nice and glassy for about an hour an a half. We started off slow, my friend started off with a 1-1.5 pounder (LMB). I followed him by snagging a couple sunfish and then caught a crappie. Score now at .4 to 1, lol. We always joke about when we paddle through the pads and see all the fish scatter that we should try dipping our plastics in the water and "ice fish". Well I decided to try it and hooked a sunny in .05 seconds hahah. .5 to 1 at this point. I was using a 4 inch green and silver swim grub, and my buddy was mostly using senkos, sometimes he would try the POP-R but with no luck. Just as he started talking about how we hadnt had a double hook up since he could remember, i set into a good fish, he says he has a fish too. In they come and mine appeared to be ~2.5 lbs, a good fish, fought nicely. His was about 1.5 again. 1.5 to 2, im losing.... By the end of the night I ended up catching another off the same swim grub.. Overall a good time, but now were looking into getting a decent size boat, something we could use in the river. If any of you wanna give me a good birthday present let me know hahah.

no better than the res from 4-8 with a froggy. If you hear the bass sucking in the pads, throw that froggy. _________________ Sorry honey, looks like we will be late again due to motor problems.

As Redneck Fisherman said "fish them pads".
You are leaving way too much low lying fruit on the ground. Get some 10 to 12 pound braided line with a 1/4oz bullet weight and your favorite soft plastic and make a soft cast to the middle, edges and openings in the pads. When you feel that familiar tick, set the hook immediately and reel like your life depended on it. This will get the bass up and out of the pads much quicker while upping your chances of landing her.
I live off of Hang Dog Lane and fish there a number of times through out the year and always get something in or around the pads. Mark |

I used to fish the pads with a purple frog all the time when i used to fish off shore, theres a nice log you can stand on right before the bridge. When I am in the canoe I tend to fish the edges of the pads, not the middle of them. Sometimes ill throw into the gaps of the pads and i can and have pulled fish from there, i usually use a 10lb mono line which has done the trick. There really is a lot of fish to be caught in there... friends of mine were thinking of buying some sort of tagging system and rigging each one with a number that corresponded to a monetary value, for example, big fish = 5 bucks, small ones a buck or something, and everyone u pulled the other person had to pay you that amount hahah.
gotta say, i love to gamble. _________________ Screw work....I wanna fish

That sounds like like a fun idea, but I bet it's probably illegal to tag a fish without permits from the DEP, especially with your intentions in mind. _________________ Life's Short - Fish Hard - Take a Kid Fishing |

Iused to live on Hang Dog. I fished the Res many times with BassAddict. It used to be much better. I had a lot of luck by the dock furthest away from Highland Street. Used to always pull something in over 2 pounds out of there. Reading everything everybody is writing about that places is nostalgic to me. The pads on the opposite side of the "boat launch" are pretty good. If your back is facing the launch work the pads going left and around the bend. I used to drop purple sluggos in there. |

See! Memories were made at that fishing hole.
Shallow running yellow perch color rapala's used to kill them there.
Bass Addict got one stuck in my septum at that hole. |
