|
|
fished canal rd from 6:15PM to 8:00pm today
all year long i've been having good luck with that just past high to mid tide.
started seeing alot of action off shore about 7pm.
small schools of bunker moving fast and jumping like crazy.eventually they got pushed up to the shoreline along side a jetty.same thing with the minnows
thought maybe it was snappers or big sea robbins chasing the minnows.then i started seeing big splashes out of casting range and heard heavy tail slaps about 7:15-7:30pm
today the flies and sea robbins were relentless!i was losing patience and almost out of bait.i was ready to call it quits
a bunker got tanged in my line so i used it for bait.five minutes later(while i was trying to snag more bunkers) my penn fierce6000 started screaming!
i thought it was a big blue cause it took alot of drag quick and put up one hell of a fight...but it never jumped in the 3-4 feet of water
it was actually a VERY fat 30"-32" striper!
a PB for me!
i hit the road after releasing the keeper.
the fishing was still hot when i left...bunker was still moving around and jumping and every now and then ....a big splash in close!
there was an hour of daylight left, but the flies had gotten worse.it had become an all out assault, like a swarm of killer bees almost
i havent seen anything this bad since the 1990's....the mosquitoes on fayerweather island.lol |

Congrats on the PB!
Any idea on the weight? If you look at the pic on my report back from May, mine measured 32" and weighed 12 pounds 12 ounces. Compare yours to mine to see what the weight might have been. |

Wait, you saw bait? You must be lying!
Congrats on the striper. It's always good to hear your drag scream. |

thanks guys!
didn't want to keep it out the water too long after the fight it put up, but i would guess it was 14lbs-15lbs micheal.it was very round and heavy
i was too busy fighting off the swarm of horseshoe flies to really do much besides a few pics and a quickie measurement.
it was a very unpleasant evening but well worth it.
apart from the keeper,it was nice to see bunker jumping out the water again...it's been awhile
i'm gonna try to post pics once i figure out how to do it.i've resized the pics ok.... but can't seem to find the album section to put them in a folder! |
