Hi!
I live here in Winsted.
West Hill -> Only boat launch area frozen
Highland -> Only 1st bay frozen with open water holes and leads.
Will take a while yet for them to freeze over!

Thanks for posting West Hill always takes a long time to freeze. Last year when Highland had 5 inches on it West Hill was still wide open in the beginning of Janurary |

Hi BT!
Yeap!
Even Colebrook and Hogback still open.
Wood Creek is always #1 to freeze in Ct.
Park and the west cove (Only) at Winchester are frozen.
Stillwater has open holes and leads.
Not sure about Burr?
Hear that Dog and Cranberry are frozen from Tom at Fall Mountain!
Another week and all the small waters should OK!
Big waters need calmer WX -> The wind will keep them open.

I've fished Park Pond from a boat and didn't get any bass over a foot there. Winchester I've fished but never ice fished, but people tell me that place gets slammed thru the ice. Open water though nobody is out there haha. I've done good at West Hill thats why I want to ice fish that. Highland is alright last year I ice fished it once in the first bay over some weeds in about 10 foot of water. 2 pickerel and 1 bass but thats not bad for first time. I am gonna take a trip to Bantam tomorrow to check thickness in the South, then pick up some bait and fish a small pond in burlington on Wed. Looks like rain is coming in Sat but hopefully it will get the snow out of the way so the cold air can hit the ice. I was messin around in Farmington and some ponds have almost 3 inches on it but there is a layer of slush then snow "ice". That slush needs to go... |

Hi BT!
Bantam is going to be very tough to ice fish this year because of the restricted parking.
I live 8 minutes from West Hill so I'm there quite often all year and love to fish for Kokanee Salmon (Pschyco Fish) in the summer.
Don't give a dam for Bass -> Big or Small -> Put up a good fight BUT lousy eating as far as I'm concern.
Perch, Big Bull BlueGills, Crappie, Trout, Salmon, and Pike is what I ice fish for.
Oh! The DEP put in 100 Atlantic salmon into Mt. Tom this year and only a few have been taken.
Luckly I don't have to pay for minnows. Next door neighbor has a small old spring fed factory pond that is "Looooooooded" with golden shiners. I give them fresh fish and I can take all the minnows I want.
Now that's a "Sweet Deal!"

Yea I am debating on fishing Bantam or not this year. Big baits and flurocarbon run up a big bill. I might check out Mt. Tom this year though cuz of those salmon. Bass do taste like frogs I kept one when I was 13 and i will never take one home again. Like I said though I am gonna take a drive tomorrow morning and try to find some good ice. |

I like the airplane jig and the ol reliable swedish pimple. I tip em with a mealworm and a garden worm. One trip after school in 2008 I jigged up 67 yellows at Mt. Tom on the pimple. |
