Due to T-storms launched at 6:45 am, an hour late. While motoring out thru the harbor couldn't find any bunker. Continued west hoping to spot some and stopped to cast around some fishy looking rockpiles. No one home. Decided to T&W an edge and had a solid fish on but spit the hook.
Continued in shallow and noticed some fish swimming on the surface looking like they were gulping air. Made a cast with a bucktail and one took a swipe but missed. Another cast and I boat a 25" striper. Drop another and then boat one about same size as the first. Then they were gone.
Troll some more, marking very little on screen. Pick up a short fluke. Head to another rockpile and troll. The screen lights up like a Christmas tree. I'm wondering if it's malfunctioned, but I get a strong hit and land a 30 incher. Go back over the same spot and get a 35 inch striper! Keep trolling and get several more hits but no hook up. I was using Gulp worms, thinking maybe a real sandworm would make them commit better. Had to leave to get to the ramp before dead low. |
