Well, just found out my company is moving warehouses from Wallingford to Newington. A long drive for me and my Silverado at 4:00AM, but I'm not the one footing for the rent, so go where it's cheap, no?
That said, if I'm going to be up there, why not bring the little boat to work? The only place I found that looks like it would be worth my time is Batterson Park Pond. I've never fished there, but did read up on the CTFT archives. PECo looks like he's spent too much time there.. as if there is such a thing when you're floating on the water.
A. Is it still a low water level or is it back to normal? On that same topic, is Beseck back to normal yet?
B. Is this paying to launch from Wethersfield Cove thing legit? I've never bothered to put my little Bass Pelican into the river, but if I'm driving all the way up to Newington everyday I might as well.
C. How dare my company move further from my house when gas is this expensive?! Why didn't they consult me first?
D. Any other places within a stones throw of Newington that would be worth my time? |

Seeing that I can hit up Silver Lake in Meriden on the way home too. This move might not be so bad after all, until it snows that is. |

Beseck water level is still really low as of Monday night. Caught some really nice fish there within the past week...5-0, 3-9, 3-7, 3-2, etc. Silver also has been producing some bass for me in the 2lb range. The weeds are coming in nicely at both places. I live in the general area; hate to say it but Batterson is probably your best bet. I won't pay to launch in the cove.

Where did you hook into them at Beseck? That deep cove all the way across the lake from the beach was my main stay last year, caught some serious fish there on finesse jigs and 4" dropshot worms. There was another dock across from the launch that did well for me alos, cranking a Damiki DC-200. |

So a couple things. I actually live in Newington and there really isnt that much around here that interests me fishing wise. Silver Lake is OK, but honestly it gets ridiculously weedy in the summer and theres not that many lunkers in there if you ask me.
Batterson Park isn't far, the only thing is I am not sure what kind of boat you have but I cant put my boat in there. They don't allow gas motors. Unless I take my prop off and troll around the place that's the only way I can launch there.
Newington to Wethersfield Cove is a short drive but depends if you feel if the parking is worth it. It can be pretty expensive and unless you are planning on spending all day there, you might be better off launching at a state ramp for free. Windsor isnt far, and to be honest in Glastonbury there is Seaboard Marina and they are cheaper than the Cove if you want to hit the river.
There aren't that many other options other than Besek, Silver, and the Cove. Boat wise they might be your best options. I usually just take the trip out you can get to somewhere within 30-45 minutes like Rainbow Res, Bashan, Bissell Bridge, Mansfield Hollow.
Oh and Kira - Your pictures show up just fine for me, and usually always do.. _________________ Steve |

rockyhill ferry launch is free, i would fish the river over anywhere around here, for bass, perch, crappie, pike. do you have a little outboard for that thing? If so, the river has tons of little coves and such that give up some good fish! |

Great info everyone.
I have one of those plastic boat deals that Dick's sells and I love the versatility and lack of a gas motor. I understand it's going to hinder me from actually fishing the Connecticut River and Candlewood to their fullest potentials, but it was about an $8000 cheaper option. Two batteries, largest thrust trolling motor I can find, mushroom anchor, I'm all set - so be it. It would be pretty sweet to be able to bring more than 5 rods at a time however..
I'm sure there will be one time or another this summer I'll hit up Batterson. It's really piqued my interest, what with the walleye and all. As far as launching in the Connecticut River, I'll be asking you all for more info on that later. I need a day where the current isn't so terrible I'll drain my batteries and never make it back. |

Looks like Vietnamese pork, to me.
My father-in-law keeps a Pelican Bass Raider with a 12v trolling motor on a 24 acre bass pond in the Pennsylvania Poconos. It's a really nice fishing platform. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

yup, that thing is rated for a 3hp gas motor if i remember correctly? that will go against most currents you will encounter, and power you to fishing spots more efficiently and faster(as long as the river isnt in flood stage, cuz if it is, WATCH OUT!) i would look into getting a used one, try craigslist! But, all that being said a trolling motor with a couple batteries will serve you fine too! i played that game before too!!! |

also, do you just carry the boat on top of a suv, or in a truck??? because if you dont trailer it, the guy at the Weths. cove wont charge you , and you wouldnt have to worry about current in the coves |
