Today I went out to a pond down the street from my house cause my baseball game was canceled from the t-storms so I had a bit of time to fish for some bass before I had indoor practice at 5. So I got to the spot at about 3ish and as I was walking to the pond I walked over the bridge of the river that flows through the pond and saw some trout so I said screw it and I went down and fished for trout since this article...

of the record journal has informed me basically that I can fish for trout as long as I catch and release before opening day, if my understanding is wrong tell me so I don't get in trouble cause I rarely ever trout fish cause its so crowded and hectic usually and dies down rapidly after opening week. Anyways the problem was I didnt have my trout lures with me they were in the car. So I put on a spinnerbait and caught my first one on that. Then after that I got a few bites but nothing so I went and got a phoebe from the car and from then on I was slamming them. In just an hour and a half I got 10 trout with the largest pushing close to 20 inches...I dont think i took a picture of that one though. I took a picture of the first few. Most fish were probably about 15 er so inches long, but it was loads for fun for just a short time. Sorry if I was breaking the rules by fishing these this article that my mom showed me in the beginning of the month made me assume I could fish as long as I didnt keep em which I never ever do. Anyways heres some pics.

Pretty sure only TMAs are legal til 3rd Sat in April.

Eh I will spare myself the trouble and just not fish the river again. I caught them in the river on the other side of the damn so its the river part which they do stock. I dont know why they dont let me catch and release though...its dumb cause its not like im killing the fish you know?

Hi,

Wait a minute! -> In your original post you said you fished a pond near your house -> now your saying river?

If your fishing the Mill River TMA designated area (which extends above and well beyond the dam all the way north pass the Meritt Parkway overpass) -> your fine!
Oh! And right now all trout caught in rivers/TMA's in Ct. is catch and release only, except the special designated waters.

If your fishing a seperate, stand alone, pond or lake that has trout in it -> that's a whole different story and most likely not open till Opening Day.

Forget whatever the newspapers say! -> Always go by the "Ct. Anglers Guide" -> that's better known as the rules and regs. bible on all Ct. fishing -> Fresh and Salt.

Remember the responsibility of knowing whether your fishing any Ct. waters legally or illegally is all yours -> Whether you agree or disagree with the rules and regs is irrelevant, we all have to abide by them as they are, it's the law!

rmflint - Since you're in Wallingford, I assume that the river you fished is the Quinnipiac River. The section of the river that's north of the Route 150 bridge is part of the TMA. You might have to adjust your tackle to comply with the regulations, but you can fish it as long as you always catch and release, like you always do anyway. Here are the regulations from the 2012 Angler's Guide:


In any case, nice looking trout. I've never gotten a 20 incher. Although it's not my favorite eating fish, I keep some every season because I feel like I paid for them when I bought my fishing license.

You have to resize your photos. You can do that in Microsoft Paint. 640 x 480 pixels is a good size for posting on forums. Just save the resized photos before uploading them.

Yes I read that -> But the article he posted from the newspaper was on the Mill River only, so it was logical to think he was talking about that.

Would have helped if he had mentioned the particular river he fished.

Still the rules and regs. for both the Mill and Q are just about the same.

Man! The fishing has been sloooow! -> This strange Wx pattern sure has things messed up!
Yesterday's rain though did green up my lawn, but the ground is so dry it sucked it up like a sponge!

I meant by looking at the maps!

Ct. Water Trails site has the Muddy well outlined -> Comes out of MacKenzie Res. and flows south to Dayton Pond (which is where I assume he fished) and again south from there.

yessir and you can find a number of peaceful nice spots in Tyler mill road also the muddy river goes through north branford and I believe it comes from Durham. The ponds and reservoirs along the way are all decent but were better before McKenzie was dredged
