Hi,
Left the house in Winsted at 1:00 PM.
Drove to Winchester Lake -> Not only was the boat ramp parking lot full, but so was the main parking lot loaded with vehicles like a can of sardines.
Thought to myself ->" I'm not going to fight this MOB"!
Took MacDonough (dog) home then drove to Burr Pond.
Got on at 2:00PM.
Re-opened some holes Phil had drilled the other day (Still 7"+ ice) and started jigging with spikes and butter worms, and chummed the holes with mashed up canned cat sea food.
Caught 2 small Yellow Perch and 4 Blue Gills.
Things where getting slow, after about an hour, so I moved about 40-50 yards to the west.
Drilled 1 hole and chummed it -> Before I even got the jig in the water a Crappie flashed by the hole just under the ice.
Was in 9 ft. of water and started catching Crappies at all depths immediately.
In the next 1 1/2 hours I caught 14 Crappies (all hand size) and lost about a dozen.
When they got slow I chummed somemore and back they came with a vengence!
Cat food does wonders!
Action was fast and furious -> Crappies where hitting hard.
Nearest persons to me was in shallower water to the north with traps.
Total was about 6 people on Burr spread wide apart.
Never noticed if they where catching anything -> I was too busy.
What a Great Day to hit a Honey Hole.
Sunny, Temps in the 40's, and very light wind.
Was a lot of FUN
Left Burr at 4:40 PM -> HAPPY

Congrats on the day!
How was the ice holding by day's end? Still strong at the edges or did you need to board out? |
