TRUST ME NEVER GO FISHING AT THE CT RIVER IN JANUARY... ITS FREEZING AND WHEN ITS LOW TIDE AT 1:30PM YOULL GET STUCK IN THE MUD AND IT SMELLS BAD, ALL I CAUGHT WAS A BAG AND A COLD AND A NASTY SMELL FROM THE ROTTED FISH, CLAMS AND MUSSELS, OYSTERS. BUT THE THING I FOUND OUT THAT DAY, THAT OYSTERS ARE HUGE! 8 INCH OYSTER I FOUND WAS DEAD BUT HUGE. 15 MINUTES LATER, I WAS FROZEN ON THE WAY BACK TO THE ROAD, I SAW A SCHOOL OF MINNOWS SWIMMING IN A LITTLE POND THAT WAS SEPERATED FROM THE OCEAN FO I FIGURED OUT I FORGOT MY NET.... UGHHHH ATLEAST I DID SOMETHING YESTERDAY.... 1/2/2012

we catch med to large pike every year, all winter long in the river from rocky hill south to brackish... from the boat or the shore, on every type of lure, all tides, during daylight hours in any weather. we pay to keep them stocked thick in the river for quite some time now. check out the yearly stock report and you will see what i mean. i dont know what it was you were attempting to catch but the pike are the largest active fish you will find this time of year, not much else is worth braving the cold weather for. i love crappy, assuming i am going to be eating them. you couldnt pay me to eat a fish that spends its entire life in the CT.
