Do you use worms underneath a bobber or some kind of lure to catch crappie?

I was using earthworms with small hooks and would cut pieces of worm and put it on the hook and wait for a bite. Sometimes during mid day it would be hard to catch something at greenville dam. It is best to fish there when it is cloudy. WARNING: do not use kayaks or anything if you fall down the dam you are almost guaranteed to die. DO not use boats either. There are also some good size bluegill.
