decided to FINALLY do a bit of fishing tonight, its been over a month.
So i drive over to Spring Pond in Avon, grabbed my gear from the trunk and commenced walking to my favorite spot. I got about half way there and felt a mosquito bite on my neck. I stopped walking and put my stuff down to kill the bloodsucker. When i bent over to pick up my gear i noticed anoth skeeter on my right arm, and then another and another and another....... They were even biting through thick cargo shorts.
I grabbed my stuff and booked for the car, not even one cast i think that most ponds near me must be in similar states of buggy nastiness right now because of the flooding after Irene.
Does anyone know of any ponds in the greater Hartford area that arent sooooo buggy? If not i fear that my fall fishing hopes are officially dashed...
BTW. I was wearing bug spray. I strongly recommend avoiding Spring Pond... |

The humidity lately has caused a ton of bugs man. Hopefully it will get better soon. I can see them almost everywhere. Back yard. The pond. At work. Everywhere. _________________ Never give up! |

Sorry, Boomatt. I apologize for failing to mention the clouds of mosquitos in my last Spring Pond report. I killed about a dozen, but somehow ended up with only two bites on my hand. You definitely need to apply DEET before heading out there. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

The kicker is, there were people fishing there that i walked by on the way in and i saw the killer mosquitos dive bombing them but, they didnt even flinch!!! here i am tossing my arms around like a maniac in the background, i mustve looked a fool.
Maybe i need to pick up knitting as a hobby...
I did get out to bigelow hollow with the wife and another couple last weekend (more of a lazy paddling trip than fishing trip) and i caught a 3lb, on the nose, LMB. And some shorties all on spinners... |
